About the Team

Workday is a leading Enterprise Cloud Applications provider developing and deploying a wide range of business applications. The Workday Architecture Group performs research on Workday’s future architecture, including building out proof of concepts and early products. If you appreciate the elegance and complexity of a highly available, scalable, secure, open and modern distributed platform and can perform quick yet accurate implementations, then this role could be a good fit.

About the Role

As a member of this team you’ll collaborate with innovative and experienced engineers on projects helping define the future architecture of the Workday platform. You will prove out advanced designs it to meet growing business needs while minimizing operational cost.

• Participate in the design of Workday’s future architecture

• Write code, develop tools, and perform other software engineering tasks necessary to prove out the architecture, in an iterative, agile environment

• Be able to move fast, yet generate high quality output, knowing that iteration is an important aspect of our development process

• Document design and code for maintainability

• Contribute ideas for continually improving the team's productivity, job enjoyment, and code quality

• Collaborate with architects, principal engineers and technical product managers to analyze functional requirements, devise architecture designs that provide real scalability, low latency, and high availability

• Be responsible for system performance and stability by proactively identifying and diagnosing issues and rapidly deploying code to address issues

• Be an enthusiast of our technologies and products. Influence and collaborate across functional teams in coming together towards a common business goal and data architecture

About You

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience using Java or another JVM-based language such as Scala or Kotlin

Other Qualifications

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science, or related field

• Experience in database implementation and/or use.

• Experience or coursework in compilers, model driven development, distributed systems, databases, and/or language design.

• Web technologies including: React.js, Node.js, RESTful api, JSON, GraphQL and REST-based services

• SQL and NOSQL databases

• CI/CD: Github, Jenkins pipelines

• Working knowledge of cloud services such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud etc.

• Experience in Agile development methodologies: eXtreme Programming, Crystal Methods, Scrum.

• Proven track record to balance multiple priorities and communicate across organizational boundaries

• Great team player

Workday Pay Transparency Statement

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below.  Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus, as well as annual refresh stock grants.
