POSITION OVERVIEW

Alarm.com, a highly innovative and entrepreneurial SaaS (Software as a Service) company, is seeking a Sr. Business Analyst to join our Finance and Accounting team.

The Sr. Business Analyst will be a hands-on and self-directed individual responsible for not only the day-to-day operational reporting needs of the Finance and Accounting teams, but for significant amounts of ad hoc analyses in support of capital allocation decisions, financial modeling workstreams, and pricing model development. This position will be the primary point of contact for the business reporting needs of our Finance and Accounting departments, helping to prioritize and deliver reports and analysis to support these critical functions. The ideal candidate will be curious and well-informed about the latest developments in finance and industry news. They will be customer-oriented and have a proven history of developing and cultivating relationships with a wide range of functional area stakeholders, including strong connections and a trusted rapport with senior executives. The candidate must be comfortable creating financial models in Excel, writing and reading SQL, structuring the presentation of results in a coherent and actionable manner, using a variety of analytical tools, and be adept at handling large datasets sourced from both internal systems and external stakeholders. This position will report to the Director of Strategic Finance and will work closely with other members of the Business Intelligence and Finance and Accounting teams.

RESPONSIBILTIES

 The Sr. Business Analyst’s primary job responsibilities may include but will not be limited to:

  • Provide management reporting on financial, operational, and revenue acquisition performance metrics that will be vital to multiple levels of our organization.
  • Develop and automate reports, solving the Business Intelligence (BI) and analytical needs of our full range of Finance stakeholders. Collaborate with these stakeholders to establish the right metrics for monitoring the business.
  • Leverage business and industry knowledge to assist in internal initiatives from ideation to launch, participating in multiple areas of the project to ensure successful execution in pursuit of business objectives.
  • Evaluate addressable market opportunities in partnership with our Finance and strategy teams, incorporating data from multiple sources to quantify current and future market/growth opportunities.
  • Set standards for data management and conceive projects needed to eliminate gaps between current state and future goals.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within the finance department and across the organization.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, accounting, operations, and IT, to gather requirements, develop solutions, and implement changes.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Lead or participate in finance-related projects, including system implementations, process reengineering, and other initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 6+ years of total experience, preferably in technology-focused corporate finance, public accounting, or equity analysis.
  • 6+ years of experience with using SQL for data analysis. Familiarity with other programming languages is a plus.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Finance, Data Science, Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or relevant technical field. Finance with a math background preferred.
  • Working knowledge of financial statements, concepts, and systems.
  • Experience developing MicroStrategy reports, dashboards/dossiers, and with the MicroStrategy architecture preferred. Experience with other Business Intelligence (BI) tools may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, solve problems, draw valid conclusions, and make actionable recommendations in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Understanding of Data Management and the data lifecycle.
