Position Summary:
The Data Engineering Intern will work to build data processes and pipelines to support the Strategic Technologies trading group with analysis, forecasting, modeling, and task execution.
Methodologies to achieve this support include python programming, database engineering (SQL), cloud infrastructure (AWS), and common autonomous programming practices. An ideal candidate for this role will have a desire/willingness to quickly learn many skills and technologies rather than be a specialist, demonstrating a passion for quality control and attention to detail, and possessing an ability to find a balance between complexity and practicality to quickly attain reliable production solutions.
Essential Job Functions:
- Acquire and process market and operational data into proper form for use in machine learning and optimization algorithms.
- Improve automation of data acquisition, preparation and validation of data for use in machine learning models in AWS and on-premise.
- Create reports and visualizations using various reporting tools.
- Develop strong Domain Knowledge regarding power markets.
- Apply theoretical and practical knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning techniques and tools to solve business problems where needed.
- Other projects as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
- Background in data mining and statistical analysis.
- Proficiency with Python and associated technologies such as Numpy and Pandas Python libraries.
- Intermediate experience with use of various databases for storing and querying structured and non-structured data using SQL and other query languages.
- Experience with Linux and shell scripting.
- Experience with data processing/ETL workflow tools like Airflow or Prefect is a plus.
- Experience with weather data is a plus.
- Experience with visualization tools. Matplotlib required, Grafana or Superset is a plus.
- Experience with AWS Lambda, EC2, and S3 is a plus
- Able to quickly learn necessary skills and information where necessary.
