The VP of Quality and Patient Safety is responsible for oversight of the following functions: Clinical Effectiveness, Performance Improvement and Decision Support, Data Management, and Patient Safety. This key leadership position works collaboratively and cohesively with other senior leaders for Infection Control, Patient Experience and Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1.    Master’s degree in health-related field or Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from an accredited medical school.
2.    Currently licensed in the field of related education. EXPERIENCE:
1.    Eight (8) years management experience addressing quality issues.
2.    Five (5) years’ experience developing, leading, and educating hospital-wide quality initiatives.
3.    Five (5) years’ experience in trend analysis, benchmarking, statistical operations, and process improvement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:
1.    Recent and relevant clinical background in acute care setting
2.    Experience in the use of utilization management systems, including database management systems and spreadsheet analysis
3.    Experience in teaching hospital or prior quality improvement role
4.    Formal training in clinical quality, clinical epidemiology, and/or patient safety

1.    Chairs the BMC/JMC Quality Executive Council (or equivalent) and develops guidelines for quality and patient safety data.
2.    Provides leadership, teaches, motivates, and assists in the implementation of quality programs in the clinical setting.
3.    Identifies and implements unique and innovative initiatives aimed at improving clinical quality and patient safety.
4.    Improves reporting of quality metrics to leaders and increases real-time reporting.
5.    Recognizes potential barriers to implementation and develops a roll-out strategy with the assistance of local staff and leadership.
6.    Directs the development of policies related to quality and safety.
7.    Leads the maintenance of quality assurance awards.
8.    Oversees activities to enhance Patient Experience.
9.    Assists with efforts to maintain regulatory compliance.
10.  Assists in the development of metrics for provider ongoing professional practice evaluation (OPPE).
11.  Oversees the preparation and monitoring of budgets and expenses within areas of responsibility.
12.  Works closely with other groups implementing various parts of BMC/JMC strategy.
13.  Serves as the primary spokesperson for the communication of quality and patient safety strategies to outside entities.
14.  Works closely with project teams to ensure that a standard implementation approach is developed and used across all BMC/JMC entities.
15.  Improves the performance of BMC/JMC and its component entities on external benchmarking systems including but not limited to Vizient and US News and World Report.
16.  Works with physician groups and service lines on quality initiatives.
17.  Leads continuous improvement programs and helps develop a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.
18.  Collaborates with the System Chief Quality Officer and other executives and engages with leaders and clinicians throughout the organization in a hands-on fashion to build quality, safety, efficiency, effectiveness, and a sense of shared accountability.
19.  Takes a clinical leadership role in evaluating care delivery and developing the infrastructure for improvement.
20.  Strengthens the data and information capabilities of the organization and championing a data-driven environment. 
21.  Develops and leads educational opportunities in clinical quality and patient safety for healthcare workers. 
22.  Engages in scholarship related to clinical quality and/or patient safety and disseminates results through presentations and publications to augment the regional and national reputation of BMC/JMC and WVU Medicine.
23.  Performs other related tasks identified by the BMC/JMC Executive Leadership Team.
