General Liability Specialist

Reporting to the Manager, Risk, the General Liability Specialist serves as the primary point-of-contact for outside parties, internal partners/stakeholders, and acts as the liaison with the Tribe’s Third-Party Administrator (TPA). This role reviews and monitors the status of General Liability claims, evaluates the performance and service of the TPA, and works across the enterprise to educate and support risk management activities to reduce injuries and illness that result in general liability claims.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Acts as the primary point of contact for internal partners/stakeholders on all matters related to non-employee incidents and claims. Provides guest-facing customer service to patrons and/or their attorneys by responding to emails and telephone calls to provide claim-filing information and nexts steps in the claim process. Communicates and responds the same day or by end of next business day.  Acts as the primary point of contact for all outside parties, including, but not limited to, patrons, attorneys and insurance carriers. Re-directs communications sent to Risk Management in error to the appropriate internal departments, as needed.
2. Ensures high-quality, error-free incident processing through the Risk Management Information System (RMIS). Uploads all incident-related documents, communications and correspondence, and generates communications, including Claim Packets, to outside parties through the RMIS system. Verifies gaming-facility and non-gaming facility incidents to ensure accurate information is provided to outside parties and the TPA. Maintains contacts in the RMIS system and attaches contact information to their associated incidents/claims for tracking purposes.
3. Receives and reviews incoming claim documents, and submits claims to the TPA. Maintains claim files, monitors claim statuses, and acts as a liaison between the enterprise and the TPA, securing investigative reports, and providing requested information to assist with the investigation of the claim. Secures additional information from internal stakeholders/partners, as needed. Processes surveillance footage requests and player status requests. Updates basic litigation information upon notice of petition/case filed.  
4. Monitors the TPA’s performance against contracts, including claim reserves and the timeliness of claim-handling, particularly as it relates to deadlines.  
5. Verifies accuracy of settlement and expense replenishment funding requests from the TPA, and processes payments for these requests in a timely manner, to avoid erosions to the impress account that could result in delayed payments. Provides analysis of claim financials to assist with yearly budgeting and blanket purchase order to expedite timely payments of funding requests.
6. Provides back up for Risk Specialist/Analyst and Worker’s Compensation Specialist, as needed.
7. Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the department.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, law, risk management, or related field required.

• Minimum three (3) years related experience required.

• Related, relevant, and/or direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational requirements indicated above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSA)

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook is required.

• Experience demonstrating the utmost discretion and confidentiality as they will have access to private and sensitive information such as Social Security Numbers, credit cards, personal data or financial data from colleagues, personnel or customers.

• Strong initiative and solid judgment abilities/skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills; strict attention to detail.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

• At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission, you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.

• Authorized Driver: Role requires operation or driving of Tribe-owned vehicles or driving patron vehicles. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the insurance carrier is required.
