Join the Canrig team in our newly established Midland, Texas facility! We’re looking for Shop Mechanics with a passion for quality and precision to help grow our operation. This role is responsible for performing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs on Canrig OEM drilling equipment in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. The ideal candidate will take pride in delivering high-quality work while supporting the continued success of our customers and our shop’s development.
- 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation schedule providing work-life balance.
- Paid travel and housing while on rotation.
- Perform mechanical repairs and overhauls on Canrig OEM equipment, including Top Drives, Iron Roughnecks, Catwalks, and ensuring all work meets OEM specifications and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems using diagnostic tools and schematics to identify issues accurately and perform corrective repairs.
- Disassemble, inspect, and rebuild components such as gearboxes, hydraulic cylinders, motors, and control systems to restore full operational functionality.
- Perform preventative maintenance and equipment evaluations to identify potential issues before failure, improving reliability and uptime.
- Utilize hydraulic and electrical schematics to trace faults, install replacement parts, and verify system performance post-repair.
- Document all repair activities including inspection reports, parts usage, labor hours, and test results in D365 and Visual.
- Conduct operational testing and functional checks after repairs to confirm compliance with Canrig’s performance standards and safety requirements.
- Maintain shop tools, equipment, and test benches, ensuring calibration and readiness for all repair operations.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, quality control, and operations teams to provide feedback on design or recurring field issues.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and environmental regulations, including the proper handling of hydraulic fluids, oils, and cleaning materials.
- Support training and mentoring of junior technicians, sharing technical knowledge and promoting a strong team culture focused on continuous improvements
- Assist with process improvements and efficiency initiatives within the shop to enhance turnaround times and overall productivity.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities for failed or returned components to prevent recurrence.

The requirements representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required are listed below:
Education and/or Experience – High school diploma or general education degree (GED), and trade/technical school diploma or 2 years related experience in any one of the following our vocations: Mechanical, Electrical, Drilling Systems or Electronics.
Language Skills – Must be fluent in English, and possess the following abilities: to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos, to write simple correspondence, to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical skills – Possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Posses the ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage.
Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills – General knowledge of word processing software and email messaging, and an all around general knowledge of computers operations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
Valid Driver’s License
PREFERRED QUALIFCATIONS:
- Formal technical training or certification in mechanics, hydraulics, or industrial maintenance from a recognized trade school or technical college.
- Previous experience with Canrig or Tesco equipment, including Top Drives, Iron Roughnecks, or Catwalks.
