Position Specific Description
Serves all NextEra Energy, Inc. entities (including Florida Power & Light company and NextEra Energy Resources) as a technical accounting advisor to ensure that the companies are appropriately and consistently interpreting and applying relevant accounting literature to current and proposed transactions. Works with management to consider the accounting implications of alternative deal structures and supports business units (e.g. gas infrastructure, NEP, M&A Accounting and contract review) with technical accounting on significant, unusual transactions. Review and approve or address issues and policy changes identified by the Directors of Contract Review, M&A Accounting and Oil and Gas. Keeps senior management informed about potential changes in accounting rules being proposed by accounting standard setters, including the potential impact to the Companies’ financial statements. Overseas and leads implementation of new accounting standards.
Supervises the work and manages the performance of Technical Accounting Project Managers (Project managers). Responsible for reviewing and approving the conclusions of direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervisory Responsibility
- Perform technical accounting research for transactions
- Develop and maintain NextEra Energy’s accounting policies
- Implementation of Previous Convergence Projects
- Responsible for overseeing the implementation of the new revenue/lease/financial instrument standards as well as supporting the Senior Director of Accounting Implementation Projects.
- Monitor and implement other accounting rule changes
- Responsible for monitoring developments in other potential new accounting rules proposed by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Emerging Issues Task Force (EITF), and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
- Oversee APA SOX compliance
- Coordinate/Manage in-house CPE courses
- Manage process for compliance with SEC and PCAOB rules related to auditor independence
- Serve as lead or integral team member to provide accounting expertise on various corporate initiatives, provide direct input into the process, coordinate appropriate business unit and accounting personnel, review and provide comments on dockets, testimony or other filings

Job Overview
This job is responsible for overseeing accounting policies and procedures including cost, general, and tax as well as accounts payables and receivables. Leaders in this role manages the recording of financial transactions relating to projects in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements and performs an effective review of those records before financial information is released.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
• Implements and maintains a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies, SEC requirements and US GAAP
• Supervises a group of accounting managers and other staff accountants
• Ensures that company financial reports are prepared in compliance with policies and directives, US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• High School Grad / GED
• Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
• Experience:10+ years
• Supervisor/Management Experience:5+ years
