Pay Range: $17.57-$22.41 per hour based on experience and qualifications.


We are looking for a Patient Financial Services Counselor to educate patients on their financial liability for healthcare services and provides support in identifying and applying for sources of payment or financial assistance. Interviews patients and completes patient applications to Colorado Hospital Discounted Care (HDC), Colorado Indigent Care Program (CICP), Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center Compassionate Care Program (CCP) and assists with Colorado Medicaid Health First PEAK applications. Provides answers and resources for inquiries regarding the revenue cycle.


Essential Job Functions:

· Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the personal, financial, medical, or employment status of a patient.

· Demonstrates competence in using the applicable revenue cycle software systems.

· Screens patients and conducts interviews for eligibility in HDC, CICP, CCP, and Colorado Medicaid PEAK financial assistance programs.

· Educates patients on financial responsibility for healthcare services, financial policies of the health system, and identifying sources of payment or financial assistance.

· Accepts walk-in patient visits and answers incoming patient telephone calls.

· May perform bedside visits to screen and interview patients for financial assistance, as necessary.

· Maintains HDC, CICP, and PEAK required documentation to ensure timely reporting to outside agencies on number of applications processed and assistance provided.

· Submits quarterly Colorado Application Assistance Site (CAAS) reports to the State.

· Accurately prepares adjustments to accounts.

· Receives and processes patient payments.

· Prepares and distributes eligibility cards for patients who qualify for HDC and CICP.

· Maintains accurate account information by documenting all actions taken to resolve the account.

· Ability to problem-solve accounts by analyzing account notes and remittances.

· Is a liaison between the hospital and AR Services and A1 Collection Agency on outsourced self-pay accounts.

· Communicates customer services issues to the Revenue Cycle Director in a timely and appropriate manner.

· Logs patient complaints into the Risk Management software and adds the Risk insurance to accounts.

· Provides feedback to the Revenue Cycle Director to ensure the department processes are continually improving.

· Maintains an effective working relationship with Administration, Directors, physicians and their office staff, hospital staff, and vendors to ensure goals are optimized and that good working relationships are cultivated and retained.

· Demonstrates a flexible attitude and is professional in both appearance and approach.

· Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Required Education/Experience: High School diploma required. Previous healthcare revenue cycle experience preferred. Experience in HDC, CICP, Medicaid PEAK applications is desirable.


Pre-Employment Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

• Provide support activities, as assigned, to ensure program needs are met.

• Outstanding verbal and written communications skills.

• High degree of attention to detail when completing assignments.

• Ability to engage with and work with other personnel and teams.

• Ability to work with current computer software programs with advanced skill and competence (including keyboarding and troubleshooting).

• Knowledge of office procedures including telephone etiquette and use of all office equipment (copier, fax machine, computer).

• Ability to read, understand, and implement policies and procedures.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must obtain annual flu vaccination, Covid vaccine and any job-specific immunizations. Required to complete a tuberculosis screening process.
