What’s the role?

We are looking for an experienced, high energy, high-impact tax professional to focus on U.S. indirect taxes, including but not limited to sales and use, business & occupational, gross receipts  and to support the U.S. and international income tax, indirect tax and information reporting teams with process automation through the use of AI, Alteryx or other similar technologies.

As the U.S. Indirect Senior Tax accountant you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day U.S. indirect tax compliance and controversy for Etsy, Reverb and Depop. You will also be responsible for working closely with tax team members outside of the U.S. indirect tax team to act as the process automation leader for the entire tax team. The candidate must be comfortable directly collaborating closely with various business teams and develop comprehensive tax solutions, develop tax requirements that clearly articulate such solutions, and drive the implementation of the tax requirements. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of U.S. indirect taxes, indirect tax controversy practices and procedures, as well as a history of significant process automation. 

This is a full-time position reporting to the Manager, U.S. Income Tax and the base salary range will be 101,000-131,000. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. 

This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn office in an in-person or flex capacity. Candidates living within commutable distance of the Brooklyn Hub, may be the first to be considered.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Lead the entire life cycle of  U.S. indirect tax compliance, including but not limited to sales/use, business & occupation, gross receipts, etc..
• Assist with indirect external and internal tax audits by gathering, analyzing and providing requested audit supporting documentation as needed.
• Assist in tax mappings to 3rd party softwares, i,e Vertex/Avalara for sales tax  determination 
• Responsible for the  reconciliation of indirect tax general ledger accounts and propose journal entries as necessary to record accruals or adjustments.
• Provide support to other team members as needed as it relates to global information reporting or abandoned and unclaimed property state workstreams.
• Continually  stay ahead of changing laws and working to ensure full compliance and risk management.
• Provide valuable insight and oversight related to Etsy’s tax footprint and initiatives.
