JOB SUMMARY

The Project Safety Manager – Critical Infrastructure is the on-site safety lead for hyperscale and colocation data-center builds ranging from 40 MW to 200 MW. This role provides daily oversight of safety performance across multi-discipline trade partners—including BAS technicians, electricians, mechanical trades, commissioning agents, and general construction teams.


The Project Safety Manager ensures work is executed safely, aligns with OSHA 29 CFR 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, STC corporate policies, GC requirements, and owner safety standards. This role drives continuous safety engagement through field walks, audits, hazard assessments, energized work controls, high-risk activity planning, and contractor coordination.


This position is full-time and embedded at the project site. The Project Safety Manager leads daily safety meetings, facilitates pre-task planning, reviews lift plans, manages safety documentation, and supports the GC’s safety expectations. They will champion proactive risk mitigation by working directly with subcontractors, field supervisors, commissioning teams, and project leadership.


This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Construction Safety & Field Oversight (40%)

  • Lead daily site safety walks, identify hazards, issue corrective actions, and verify closure.
  • Oversee compliance with OSHA 1910/1926, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, and electrical safe-work practices.
  • Review and approve Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), energized work permits, lift plans, and high-risk activity plans.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety practices and coach field teams on hazard controls.
  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping, incident reporting, investigation, and root-cause analysis.
  • Ensure proper PPE selection, issuance, and compliance across all trades.


Safety Program Execution & Documentation (30%)

  • Lead weekly safety stand-downs, toolbox talks, and topic-based training sessions.
  • Maintain audit logs, trending metrics, incident data, and compliance documentation.
  • Develop and maintain site-specific emergency action plans, evacuation procedures, and severe-weather protocols.
  • Ensure safety requirements are built into project schedules, BIM coordination, and commissioning windows.
  • Coordinate with GC, owner, and STC team to meet project-specific safety scorecard expectations.


Energized Work, Cutovers, & Commissioning Safety (10%)

  • Support commissioning, Level 2/3/4 testing, load bank events, and live system cutovers with strong adherence to NFPA 70E.
  • Verify LOTO procedures, boundaries, permits, and qualified worker requirements.
  • Provide safety oversight during hot work, battery installation, generator testing, and mechanical/electrical start-up activities.
  • Facilitate risk assessments for abnormal or non-routine operations.


Client and Stakeholder Relations (10%)

  • Participate in safety walks with GC, owner, and commissioning teams.
