About the role

Overview

The Staff Assistant III serves as a primary customer service representative for USU Parking and Transportation, providing front office support and assisting customers with parking permits, citations, and general parking-related inquiries. This position is responsible for accurately processing transactions, maintaining department records, and ensuring compliance with university parking regulations and departmental procedures. The Staff Assistant III exercises sound judgment in resolving customer concerns, utilizes multiple computer systems to manage parking information, and supports departmental operations through special projects,  and process improvements. This role plays a key part in delivering efficient, professional, and customer-focused service to the university community.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct customer service and computer functions in the front office for Parking and Transportation Department.
  • Completes parking permits sales, collects parking citation payments, and provides visitor information in the Parking Office.
  • Negotiates with customers regarding vehicle impounds, citations and towed vehicles.
  • Ensures all data is entered accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Processes citations payments received through the mail and in person.
  • Makes suggestions on ways to improve services, efficiency, policy and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of all department procedures and parking regulations
  • Coordinates with the Parking Operations Manager for specific supplemental projects as needed.
  • Primary person in charge of linking vehicles to citations using a myriad of programs.
  • Attends the new employee orientation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of comparable experience; or an associate degree/technical training plus two years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree.
  • Must be able to work overtime from August 20 to September 15 on an annual basis.

    Office Work with Some Physical Requirements:

    Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

    Occasional outdoor duties helping with athletic game parking:

    Outdoors, incumbents may not be protected from weather conditions and may be exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold.
