This position will have primary oversight over the Cape Fear Operations area but will assist with adjoining areas as needed. This position will have field construction accountability for the successful execution of Power Grid Operations (PGO) construction, maintenance, and restoration activities. The position will report to the Manager of Construction Management who will provide general guidance and oversight. This position will have responsibility for construction management during all phases of moderately complex projects. Manage the execution of PGO work plan in accordance with the appropriate Scope and Method of payment while maintaining financial stewardship. Ensure the efficient utilization of contractor resources to meet the work plan. This position works to ensure customer and company project goals are met while working with both internal and external stakeholders.
This position will serve as the single point of contact for all PGO contractors. This could include all phases of the project lifecycle from development through construction activities to assure the project is built per Duke Energy’s specifications and standards.
Assisting the project team with managing, enforcing or ensuring:
- Project costs
- Schedule adherence to achieve project in-service dates
- Compliance with permitting requirements
- Adherence to safe work practices
- Coordination of material as needed
- Adherence to safe work practices
- Public safety is maintained, and appropriate security is utilized at project sites
- Commissioning of facilities through the placement of assets in service.
Responsibilities
Manage construction resources and oversight activities related to site safety, environmental adherence, construction standards, NERC/CIP, work authorization/clearance, appropriate construction techniques, etc. Support pre-construction meetings.
Participate in constructability reviews and ensure adherence to IFC designs. Assist with identification of design issues and work with Transmission engineering to develop a resolution.
Develop Construction resource sequence plans with applicable durations and manage issues impacting the efficient progression of project construction.
Facilitate project material management regarding availability, delivery sequencing, accuracy, and related issue identification to work towards resolution with appropriate departments.
Coordinate facilities commissioning, placing assets in service, project close out, and turnover to Duke Energy Transmission Maintenance and ECC.
Basic/Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management or relevant field experience and three (3) plus years' required work experience that must be in utility construction, OR
Associate’s degree in engineering technology, construction management, or relevant field and five (5) plus years' required work experience that must be in utility construction, OR
High school diploma/GED and seven (7) plus years of utility construction/maintenance experience.
Valid driver’s license
Desired Qualifications
Experience performing H&S safety observations
Experienced in various roles and/or jurisdictions within PGO
Knowledgeable of crane/lifting operations and associated rigging
Knowledgeable of DOT work zone compliance
Thorough understanding of the "Keys to Life" safety document, Cardinal Electric Safety Rules, Cardinal Safe Digging Rules and contractor H&S safety supplementals
Demonstrated knowledge and skills with various internal tools and software applications - (Maximo, Plantview, Construction Audit Tool, iTOA, Duke Energy GIS system, Planed Outage Portal(D), and Duke Energy ADMS tool (Distribution)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management or relevant field experience and three (3) years' required work experience that must be in utility construction
• Experience performing H&S safety observations
• Possesses experience in multiple roles and/or jurisdictions in PGO
• Understanding of cran
