Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position is an advanced and independent aspect of public health nursing work in pediatric, family planning and adult primary care. This primary responsibility of this position is to detect physical and mental abnormalities through complete health history, taking physical and developmental assessment and evaluation fo various test results. A second responsibility is to counsel (teach) clients and/or family in an attempt to prevent further problems, and increase clients awareness then to refer problems on to the correct resources. The incumbent may be required to travel to provide services to the Tri County Area. All primary care programs are to be coordinated with other nursing staff and are performed under the general supervison of the Medical Director.
Incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency operation functions required of the incumbent include but are not limited to: Special needs shelters, Red Cross shelters, or other emergency functions, including responses to bioterrorism or threats of bioterrorism.
Designated “Need to know” position with access to the following confidential information: client medical records, including immunization records. Adheres to Dixie County Health Department Confidentiality and Security policies and procedures.
- Complies and evalutes histories on adults and children
- Performs basic physical examinations of clients utilizing techniques such as observation, palpation, percussion and auscultation.
- Identifies and evaluates illnesses and injuries.
- Treats common illnesses for adults and children under a physician’s supervision or by utilizing written standing orders and consultation with physician regarding treatment.
- Obtains and interprets necessary laboratory procedures.
- Requests written prescription or consultation from MD when needed.
- Manages specific conditions, i.e. asthma, ear infections hypertension, URI’s, etc
- Assesses immunization status.
- Maintains clinical records
- Counsels parents or clients upon a diagnosis or plan of therapy.
- Makes referrals as needed to specialists.
- Diagnoses and treats acute disease and injury under direct or indirect supervision of a physician.
- Provides ongoing monitoring and treatment of primary care clients with chronic problems.
- Reviews abnormal labs. Initiates follow-up and treatment for abnormal labs.
- Performs record audits and participates in Quality Assurance Reviews.
- Provides health teaching to clients and their families.
- Performs minor surgical procedures as necessary.
- Experience working with Telemedicine.
- Assists with Community Paramedicine Program clients.
