Job Description
About the role:
In this position you will have the opportunity to work across different countries and cultures, and be an integral part of our Engineering team. Will be responsible for performing CFD modelling work for glass melting furnaces to continuous improve melter performance and glass quality, supporting manufacturing, melting, operations and glass conditioning. Also, will focus on improving manufacturing operating costs through improved designs for sustainability and energy reduction initiatives and capital cost reductions. This role will report directly to our Global Melting Strategy and Integration Leader and will have no reports globally.
We support flexible working, and as such this role can be based anywhere in United States.
- Develop models for new (green field) glass melting furnaces of all types, end-port, side-port, oxy-fuel, etc.
- Develop models for existing furnaces in case of quality issues and provide guidance in problem resolution.
- Support sustainability projects and goals as needed.
- Update current modelling questionnaire with latest requirements in relation to the modelling software.
- Create and improvement of presentation format of modelling results, so they are clear, concise and comparable. Continuous improvement.
- Validate completed models with real data from furnaces after completion of the rebuild process or implementation of proposed process changes.
- Include financial implications of process changes in the model.
- Close cooperation with the Melting, Operations and Glass Science teams/networks
- Manages the modelling process from information request to final report and validation of the results.
- Coordinate with other disciplines like Operations, Glass Conditioning and Glass Science on the input and output parameters of the models.
- Create global modelling schedule/planning.
- Prepare a clear and concise modeling report that includes the outcome of the modelling, financial parameters and clear guidelines for design and/or process changes.
- Participate in the Global Furnace Team calls to identify other needs for modelling outside the furnace repairs and melting issues.
Travel Requirements:
Up to 5% international and domestic travel required.
Qualifications
About you:
- You love glass and care about sustainability and the planet
- You have bachelor’s degree required or equivalent work experience in Engineering Field; Ceramic, Glass Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Structural or Construction.
- College level knowledge of mathematics and physics
- 5 -10 years’ experience in furnace design.
- Knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling and glass Industry will be a plus.
- Preferred technical background in furnace design and glass manufacturing processes
- You’re a good communicator with strong ability to be proactive and show initiative.
- Good team player

What we offer:
Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is $82,200 and $102,800. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
