What you’ll do

The Tooling and Lab Operations Manager will lead the tooling, dimensional testing, and joining technology area within the Prototype Build to support the manufacturing and testing of prototypes featuring the pioneering Scout design and functionalities. In accordance with the Scout principles, the manager in this function will ensure the transfer of Lessons Learned to the later pre-series and series production line. The Tooling & Lab Operations Manager will collaborate with the senior management to maximize quality and efficiency across this cross-departmental prototype area. The ideal candidate not only demonstrates strong managerial skills required to steer a high-performing team, but also the technical capabilities of tooling and testing prototypes according to set processes and standards.

  • Leads the Toolroom, Metrology, and Joining Technology Laboratory Section in the prototype area technically and disciplinary
  • Supports all aspects of prototype tooling and laboratories including planning & preparation, operation, and documentation
  • Oversees all personnel both hourly and salary
  • Responsible for tracking KPIs and follow up on anomalies
  • Secure concept for early training and formation of Scout’s production personnel as preparation for tasks in series production
  • Teach, cultivate, and promote teamwork and problem solving in a positive, proactive work environment
  • Collaborate with local training centers and technical institutions
  • Ensure thorough build documentation and drive continuous process improvement

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, SC. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • 7+ years of professional experience in automotive production and manufacturing/prototype production environment
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in building and managing teams
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in mechanical, electrical engineering, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of production environment and affinity to work with complex systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects
