About the role
Enter WSP is currently initiating a search for a POWER Testing and Energization (PTE) Experienced P&C Field Services Technician for our project locations in the states of Texas and Louisiana. Successful applicants will be involved in projects with our PTE Team and be a part of a growing organization that is solving problems and supporting client needs in electrical testing and commissioning in utility substations, industrial, and bulk electrical power systems.
This Opportunity
- Supports a wide range of testing and commissioning activities through application of client testing standards, industry standards (IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NESC), and manufacturer recommendations
- Works under limited supervision, independently executing moderately complex assignments, and contributing to regulatory compliance, safety adherence, and data integrity across active job sites
- Provides day-to-day support to field teams, helps resolve challenges on-site, and mentors junior technicians to promote quality, efficiency, and safe work practices

Your Impact
- Perform assigned testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations
- Perform on-site hands-on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150. Examples of relays to be tested are SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60 among others
- Use field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications to document site activities
- Perform equipment cleaning, inventory control, and calibration as directed
- Support the Project Lead or Field Supervisor on projects
- Escalate complex technical problems or unexpected field conditions to the site lead or project manager
- Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure compliance with health and safety protocols
Communicate progress, field observations, and potential delays to the project team - May review the work of less experienced technicians for quality and accuracy, providing informal guidance as needed
- Maintain attention to detail when filling out logs, photo documentation, and label entries
Collaborate with other technicians to maintain workflow, safety, and quality standards - Assist in monitoring subcontractor performance and activities and report observations to field leadership
- Perform clerical responsibilities such as timecards, expense reports, and project reports
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including experience in medium and high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing
- Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, and GE families) and protective schemes
- Technical skills related to protective relays include relay calibration utilizing test sets/measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, control scheme testing, testing of the sensing CT/PT circuits, ability to upload settings to microprocessor relays, and static & dynamic testing of microprocessor-based protective relays
- Proven experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures, such as NETA, IEEE, and NFPA applicable standards
- Demonstrable knowledge of testing electrical distribution, generation, and transmission projects with voltage levels ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV, including protective relays and circuit breakers
- Experience using technical software such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, and AcSELerator Quickset for testing purposes and data review
- Experience with reading and understanding electrical drawings
- Ability to identify routine field challenges and equipment issues, responding within established procedures and escalating atypical conditions
