Assistant Manager, Small Business Lending

About the role

To assist with planning, managing and directing national Small Business Lending Teams, to support micro and small business lending with a focus on sales, retention and interchange growth of the Business credit card, SBA lending, and Treasury Management, while supporting members in the start-up and growth stages of business. Assist with the development of strategies and programs to drive production. Serve as subject matter expert regarding systems, policies and procedures. Support management in developing and executing strategic plans. Work is performed under limited supervision. May act as Manager in the incumbent's absence.

  • Provide support to the Manager,  Small Business, on lending programs, training, current needs, compliance, existing initiatives and serve as a point of contact for Business Solutions Lending teams
  • Lead marketing efforts for Small Business Lending teams
  • Attract, retain business members and Centers of Influence through in person and/or virtual events while partnering with business unit marketing team
  • Position Navy Federal as the financial institution of choice by providing value proposition through social media (e.g., LinkedIn, etc.) and regional and national market events by attending industry specific conferences
  • Provide ongoing group and individual training for small business related to sales process, selling techniques, loan presentation write-ups/presentations, and credit analysis
  • Prepare forecasting and pipeline reports and make presentations to Manager,  Small Business 
  • Provide leadership support to large strategic projects and/or programs; ensure effective management of projects from inception through implementation
  • Lead process improvement efforts by identifying, verifying, analyzing and implementing process improvement and process re-engineering opportunities to improve production and lower costs
  • Provide technical and analytical support for process improvement initiatives
  • Coordinate with various teams to analyze project results and performance
  • Assist with benchmarking and trend analysis to drive continuous improvement and elevate service performance, increase member experience quality, generate revenue, minimize financial risk, and maintain high operational efficiency
  • Monitor work environment and direct allocation of resources to ensure adequate staffing to meet production and member service standards
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of and ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and Navy Federal policies and procedures
  • Monitor and analyze changes to applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations; develop action plans for implementation/dissemination, and coordinate changes with affected branches/divisions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Significant progressively responsible experience in leading and managing a multi-functional, multi-location Small Business Lending operation, preferably in a large financial services organization
  • Significant experience in developing marketing strategies and sales team
  • Significant experience in business loan operations, processes, loan closing, overseeing loan disbursements, and records maintenance
  • Significant experience in developing, documenting and presenting credit analyses involving business lending opportunities, including commercial real estate
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of banking/financial industry trends, products and services
  • Significant experience in managing multiple priorities independently and/or in a team environment to achieve goals
  • Significant experience in delivering presentations to virtual and in person teams
  • Advanced knowledge of data querying, reporting, forecasting, analysis and operations research, including statistical methods and modeling
  • Advanced skill developing and implementing programs in a leadership role, providing vision and strategic thinking around a full range of technical decisions and issues
  • Advanced skill in project management to include establishing and leading project teams; managing timelines/deadlines/resources; ensuring successful project implementation
  • Advanced skill to effectively manage a remote distributed workforce across multiple locations and time zones
  • Expert skill interacting with staff, management, vendors and members diplomatically and tactfully
  • Advanced skill identifying and analyzing business requirements and recommending solutions
  • Expert skill exercising initiative and using good judgment to make sound decisions
  • Advanced leadership skills, marked by poise, positive influence, and the ability to drive change
  • Expert analytical thinking skills to include summarizing information
