This position is budgeted for $33.00 per hour and is non-negotiable.
Prison Arts Collective (PAC) works to expand access to the transformative power of the arts through collaboration and mutual learning that supports the development of self-expression, reflection, communication, and empathy through providing multidisciplinary arts programming in correctional institutions. PAC is based at San Diego State University and facilitates weekly multidisciplinary arts programming and art facilitator training (AFT) programs in 14 prisons throughout California.
The PAC Regional Lead is responsible for overseeing the smooth implementation of PAC programming across the Inland region, including mentoring teaching assistants and peer facilitators, cultivating creative community within the local team and participants, and acting as the key liaison between PAC and the Community Resource Manager for each correctional institution in the region they oversee. They report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with teaching and administrative staff.
Responsibilities
This position is a leadership role within Prison Arts Collective. Regional Leads are responsible for the smooth and effective implementation of PAC programming in a given region.
Regional Oversight 30%
- Oversee the PAC scope of work in the designated region.
- Support the teaching team including the mentors, teaching artists, and peer facilitators in implementing PAC programming in alignment with PAC’s 4-part model and core values.
- Maintain communication with all teaching team members for support, including questions about classes, reviewing all post-class reports, and supporting the team with any issues or questions that arise. Lead PAC communication in the region and maintain collaborative partnership with Community Resource Managers and CDCR staff at designated sites, including PAC leadership on emails and informing them about updates or issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with PAC leadership team to share updates, requests, ideas, and help innovate solutions to programmatic questions,
- Identify and assess opportunities for new or additional programmatic offerings in the region by maintaining positive and open dialogue with CRM, participants, and team.
- Schedule a monthly regional meeting with all teaching staff in the region and prepare agendas for these meetings.
Regional Communications & Community Outreach 20%
- Cultivate connections in the local community, including networking with artists, galleries, nonprofits, and universities.
- Develop at least one regional project (exhibitions, murals, etc.) annually.
- Collaborate with PAC Communications Coordinator to share events and updates from the region on social media and other relevant outlets.
- Identify opportunities for photography services and submit requests and justifications to PAC directors.
Teaching & Mentoring 25%
- Identify and assess the need for new or additional regional team members and communicate recommendations to PAC directors.
- Collaborate with the PAC Leadership Team in recruitment of new team members
- Provide feedback and mentorship to all teaching team members, interns, volunteers and peer facilitators in the designated region to ensure all class offerings are in alignment with PAC’s educational practices
- Collaborate with teaching teams and participants to ensure co-creative, calm, focused, positive, and supportive learning environments
- Collect and upload participant rosters from each site at the beginning and end of every session, or collaborate with the Teaching Artists and Mentors to ensure consistent distribution and collection.
- Attend PAC graduations in the Region to support team and participants
- Organize and facilitate the dissemination and collection of research and evaluation forms and inform the PAC Research Team when it is complete
Administration 20%
- Attend and participate in monthly Regional Lead meetings with the Director to share successes, challenges, and recommendations for improvements in the designated region and wider PAC goals
- Coordinate logistics for printing/delivering packets and purchasing supplies for participants at the beginning of every new phase, and as needed.
- Complete monthly data reports including instruction hours, attendance numbers, and narrative reflections, and provide accurate and timely program information to the Leadership Team for grant reporting.
