The Sr. Accountant contributes to AHF by the integrity of general ledger accounts, bank reconciliations, and financial close procedures by ensuring all month-end journal entries are recorded and checklist updates are completed. Bringing expertise in accounting systems and financial analysis, the Sr. Affiliate Accountant reviews and interprets complex transactions with professionalism, commitment, and accuracy, supporting AHF’s financial stability and operational excellence.

 

The Sr. Accountant enhances the reputation of AHF by supporting the financial reporting team within AHF’s Finance Department. This position ensures the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of affiliate financial reporting.

AHF has a collaborative organizational structure where staff are accountable to multiple leaders. 

The Sr. Accountant will work as a part of a close-knit team to ensures the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of affiliate financial reporting.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA or Master’s degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and fund accounting.
  • Experience with grant compliance, restricted funds, and donor reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Blackbaud, or similar).
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to work with large data sets.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.

Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Willingness and ability to travel as required for on-site audits, trainings, or support to affiliate locations.
  • Preparing monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Maintaining the general ledger and ensuring accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Managing restricted funds, including tracking donor restrictions and releasing net assets in accordance with fulfillment of those restrictions.
  • Overseeing grant accounting and compliance, including accurate allocation of expenses and recognition of grant revenue.
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Supporting annual external audits by preparing audit schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Monitoring internal controls and recommending improvements to enhance financial accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Assisting with the preparation and review of IRS Form 990 and other regulatory filings.
