Description

Overview:

The Certified Public Accountant (CPA) plays a vital role in providing financial expertise and guidance to individuals, businesses, and organizations. They are responsible for ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, maintaining accurate financial records, and offering strategic financial advice. This position will require deployment to disaster areas. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will require the individual to deploy to a covered disaster are within 48 hours of notification.

The deployment areas will cover FEMA regions 3 & 4, Delaware, DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Job Summary:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, to provide insights into an organization's financial performance.
  • Tax Planning and Compliance: Advise clients on tax strategies, prepare, and file tax returns, and ensure compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Audit and Assurance Services: Conduct audits, reviews, and compilations of financial statements to assess accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyze financial data and trends to identify opportunities for cost reduction, revenue enhancement, and overall financial improvement.
  • Risk Management: Assess and mitigate financial risks by implementing internal controls, conducting risk assessments, and developing risk management strategies.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist clients in developing budgets, forecasting financial performance, and monitoring variances to achieve financial goals.
  • Financial Advisory Services: Provide strategic financial advice to clients on matters such as investment decisions, business expansion, mergers and acquisitions, and retirement planning.
  • Compliance and Regulation: Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, tax laws, and regulatory requirements, and ensure clients remain compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing personalized service and addressing their financial needs and concerns.
  • Professional Development: Pursue continuing education and professional development opportunities to stay current with industry trends, advancements, and best practices.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial management tools.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, tax laws, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to travel and work in disaster-affected areas for extended periods, often in challenging conditions.
  • Live within driving distance of a metropolitan airport.


Additional Skills (Preferred):

  • Experience with audit software and data analytics tools.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS).
  • Advanced certifications such as Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
  • Expertise in a specific industry or sector (e.g., healthcare, manufacturing, financial services).
  • Leadership and team management experience

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience in a related field 
  • Several years of relevant experience in public accounting, auditing, or a related field.

Certification(s):

  • CPA certification from an accredited institution.

Clearance:

Must be able to obtain and sustain a Public Trust clearance.
