Retail Manager II

Summary:
The retail centers in camp are an enhancement to each guest’s camp experience and the profits are used to underwrite camper fees. The retail manager’s responsibilities encompass managing all retail centers at camp: camp store, craft, snack bar, coffee shop (if present) and vending. This position requires generating a profit, management and purchasing of inventory, budgeting, computer skills, display as well as physical maintenance of all retail centers. This position must be able to develop and lead relationships with retail staff, vendors, guests and other camping departments while communicating clearly (in English) in these relationships. All these responsibilities are to be carried out in a way that will enhance the guest experience, honor Jesus Christ and comply with Young Life’s Statement of Purpose.


Essential Duties:
  • Operation

  • Create well maintained retail centers that demonstrate a non-verbal declaration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • Ensure Young Life standards for appearance and cleanliness are met in all retail centers.

  • Maintain a clear traffic flow with all merchandise being accessible.

  • Provide a safe environment for guests that maximize their experience.

  • Schedule the right size retail staff for each center according to guest request.

  • Create and maintain themes in the retail centers that continue the overall camp theme.

  • Perform bi-annual audits of the retail centers.

  • Perform and report an annual inventory of the camp store.

  • Maintain a specific camp Retail Operational Guide for each retail area.

  • Participate in retail department conference calls.

  • Attend the annual buyers time to purchase summer inventory to utilize corporate buying power.

  • Equipment

  • Remain current in Health Department practices and record keeping for cleaning and maintaining food service equipment within the retail centers. This will include obtaining and maintaining a Serv Safe certification.

  • Use the camp food service manager or local Health Inspector as a resource for state compliance on all food service equipment purchases/maintenance and practices.

  • Properly maintain, secure and care for all computers, peripherals, cash registers and credit card terminals.

  • Utilize the Link system to schedule DIN, routine tasks and periodic maintenance for all retail centers.

  • Systems

  • Coordinate cash reporting, recording and security for all retail centers.

  • Proficient use of the following software applications: Point of Sale, The Link, Concur, Office and Outlook.

  • Organize and file data pertinent to the business decisions on inventory.

  • Maintain monthly tracking statistics indicating the health of the retail centers.

  • Manage correspondence.

  • Personnel

  • Hire, train and supervise camp retail staff for all retail areas.

  • Develop a team whose common goal is to serve the guests and each other.

  • Lead the retail staff with excellent communication, continuous training and goal setting.

  • Conduct periodic performance reviews of supervised retail staff.

  • Participate in the hiring of camp interns and selection of retail summer interns.

  • Hire summer staff for all retail centers.

  • Maintain a Camping Retail Operations Guide to use as a training manual and resource for each retail center.

  • Inventory

  • Provide quality products in the store for guests to take home as a remembrance or spiritual resource.

  • Select, manage and maintain proper inventory levels in in all retail areas.

  • Purchase inventory of current clothing styles, gifts, books, jewelry, craft and paper products, which can be sold in the camp store at a reasonable rate.

  • Secure, receive and display merchandise.

  • Create displays that target audience appropriately, and encourage sales.

  • Provide, maintain and control inventory for food products in any food service retail center.

  • Financial

  • Prepare annual retail budget by researching guest groups, analyzing sales and inventory,and forecasti
