About the role

Atlantic Health is dedicated to nursing research. The PD Nurse Researcher supports nursing research, quality improvement, evidence-based practice and innovation at Overlook Medical Center (OMC).   

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to engage and guide nurses through the research, quality improvement and the evidence-based process (EBP) to support improved patient outcomes, or nurse/team member satisfaction. 
  • Through the model of Shared Governance, collaborate with all members of the OMC Nursing Research & Innovation Council (NRIC) with a focus on generating new knowledge and innovations, and promoting dissemination of project outcomes. 
  • Support ANCC Magnet® requirements and written application.

  • Communicate professionally with others and maintain sharp computer skills. 

Qualifications

 

 

Support nursing research, quality improvement (QI), evidence-based practice (EBP), and innovation by nurses at OMC. 

Skills: Excellent written and spoken communication skills, creative education, knowledge of research and Institutional Review Board requirements, CITI training completion a plus, knowledge of statistics and study design, publication skills, ability to foster creativity in self and others, and ability to collaborate successfully. 

Activities:

  • Serve as the advisor of the OMC NRIC and facilitator of goals and research/QI/EBP processes.
  • Organize EBP projects to explore the strength of evidence, and consistent evidence related to proposed practice/policy changes to determine if the evidence supports the proposed change in practice.
  • Design and execute nursing studies to address or answer clinical practice or operational questions.  
  • Collaborate with other AH nurse researchers to educate nurses about the research process, AH institutional review board process, quality improvement projects EBP, abstract writing, poster presentations, and manuscript writing.  
  • Guide RN team members through the AH process needed to obtain IRB approval and conduct a meaningful and well-designed nursing studies at each medical center. 
  • Support the ANCC Magnet® designation by assuring elements of New Knowledge, Innovation and Improvement (NKII) are successfully achieved. 
  • Lead writing of the New Knowledge, Improvement and Innovation sections for the Magnet submission.
  • Drive dissemination of nursing research/QI/EBP through publications, posters and podium presentations at local, regional, national and international professional organizations. Track dissemination with key elements (author/presenter, title, publication or conference, date, nature of the dissemination, location, etc.) on a monthly basis and for the annual report. 
  • Encourage nurses to share ideas for innovation and record innovations. 
  • Search and apply for grant funding for research, QI and EBP projects. 
  • Communicate with leaders of Shared Governance Councils, and attend meetings as appropriate. Attend AH Shared Governance meetings, as requested. 
  • Provide guidance to OMC nurses who are in school, with a requirement for a research/QI/EBP project (requiring IRB approval); review requirements, time table, and guide to completion following AH guidelines and also school requirements. 
  • Serve as a data collection and statistical resource for projects (academic and non-academic). Collaborate with AH statistician to confirm design and/or findings. 
  • Seek grant funding to support nursing research/QI/EBP projects. 
  • Manage budget allocations in a fiscally responsible manner. 
  • Support systemwide activities as requested. 

 

 

Education

  • RN with Masters in Nursing or DNP Required
  • RN and PhD Preferred

License:

  • Valid New Jersey Nursing License Required

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • BLS Required
  • Nursing research experience with publications, presentation skills, teaching experience, interest or experience in innovation, CITI training (strongly advised) for minimal risk research (strongly advised), experience with IRB application submissions, successful history of grant funding a plus. Must enjoy interaction with nurses and other healthcare providers. 

Relevant Experience:

  • Leadership/Management experience and strong research skills
  • Knowledge of grant funding applications
  • 5 years + experience
