Summary/Objective

The Community & Private Land Conservation (CPLC) Regional Supervisor facilitates strategic and operational planning to address regional land resource issues; monitors programs and policies; cultivates relationships with key stakeholders and partners; administers regional land cost share program; supervises biologists, private land foresters, district supervisors, and technicians, and supports the Regional Administrator.

Essential Job Duties

• Develop vision and facilitate Regional Coordination Team (RCT) strategic and operational planning to address community and private land resource issues in the region.
• Communicate strategic goals and objectives to District Coordination Teams (DCTs); oversee and direct DCTs to develop plans and strategies to achieve objectives. Serve as an RCT liaison to a DCT or multiple DCTs in the region, communicating information, facilitating DCT annual work plans, and compiling accomplishments reports.
• Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of private land and urban habitat improvement programs and policies; develop strategies to improve programs.
• Cultivate relationships with key partners in the community and with interests in private land conservation issues.
• Provide excellent customer service and management assistance to private landowners, governmental agencies, municipalities, developers, commercial and industrial entities, and residential stakeholders via inter- and intra-agency coordination. Identify optimal approaches to working with a variety of constituents.
• Collaborate with partners and landowners to provide leadership and involvement on conservation issues.
• Administer the regional private land cost share program; develop allocation mechanism for funds that reflect strategic priorities.
• Oversee, facilitate, and ensure accountability of land cost share program through review process.
• Develop a Community Conservation Team to direct regional conservation activities in coordination with key community partners.

Ancillary Job Duties

• Promote conservation programs through staff deployment, publications, presentations, interviews, and other personal contacts.
• Recommend policies and programs to support the Department’s commitment to natural resources and management.
• Serve as a member of the Regional Coordination Team and work with the Regional Administrator to set regional vision, direction, and strategy.
• Collaborate with the CPLA Branch Chief and RCT teammates on MDC policy interpretations and decisions of region-wide significance and develop and communicate regional policy to regional staff; provide input on decisions of regional significance.
• Coordinate and supervise work of District Supervisors, Private Land Conservationists, Community Foresters, Urban Wildlife Biologists, Private Land Foresters, Priority Habitat Coordinator, and Private Land Aquatic Biologists. Work with staff to identify and develop core competencies and leadership skills through training and on-the-job experience.  Assist staff with identifying, prioritizing, and exploiting opportunities in their respective districts to enhance forests, fish, and wildlife for communities and private landowners.
