HIRING RANGE: $25.87 - $28.74/hour
This position will work Tuesday-Saturday at Green Mountain Recreation Center with the need to occasionally work beginning at 5:45am.
The Assistant Facility Specialist supports in coordinating the daily operation of one or more of the city’s recreation and/or community centers. The Assistant Facility Specialist is also responsible for assisting in directing the work of the center’s variable staff, interns, volunteers, and community service workers, while ensuring safety, participation and customer service standards are upheld.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist and support the Recreation Coordinator- Facilities in ensuring that operational programs and customer service objectives are met while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor
• Assist in the orientation and training of variable staff; Direct variable staff in executing their responsibilities including providing Civic Rec support, conveying emailed information for staff
• Monitor the center’s registration and cash collection procedures, reconcile bank bags, and assist with cash reports when needed
• Open and close center as required; set up and take down activity/rental areas as needed
• Monitor use of the center ensuring that user policies and procedures are upheld; Provide limited direction and instruction on appropriate patron use of fitness equipment and participation in the center’s programs and activities
• Performs building walkthroughs at assigned times throughout the day to ensure that the center is clean and safe; respond to situations that are unsafe and cause user discomfort
• Maintain accurate records, monthly reports, facility handouts, and necessary signage; initiate reports on center functions as needed
• Keep front desk cleaned and stocked daily; monitor, order, and receive office supplies
• Post current facility schedules and work with program staff to ensure current schedules are available
• Perform other duties as assigned
Reporting Relationships
Supervision Received: Receives direct supervision from the Recreation Coordinator-Facilities
Supervision Exercised: Provides direct supervision to variable part-time staff, interns, volunteers, and community service workers, and acts as the manager on duty during work hours
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills, to include conflict resolution skills
• Basic math skills
• Organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines
• Knowledge and ability to instruct customers on the use of resistance, free weight, and cardio-vascular equipment and programs
• Ability to work early mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
• Must have ability to transport oneself to off-site locations.
• Background check required
Technological Skills
• Ability to operate a personal computer
Education and Experience
• Education: High School diploma, or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Experience: One or more years’ experience in building supervision preferred.
Experience in guest reception, with extensive public contact, facility maintenance, and project organization.
Experience in the operation of a multi-purpose recreation or service facility.
Must have some mechanical ability to perform minor building repairs.
Certification/Licenses/Specialized Training
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain within three months of hire
LIGHT WORK: Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work
