Join the hospital trusted by Chicago’s Southland, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, in this role as a Registered Nurse in our Hospice Inpatient Unit.  

 

The Hospice RN plans, organizes, and directs the hospice care of patients in conjunction with the Hospice Interdisciplinary Team. The RN provides direct patient care with an emphasis on palliative care, provides education and support to families and caregivers. Completes an initial assessment of patient and family to determine hospice care needs. Regularly re-evaluates patient/family hospice needs. Develops care plan.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

 

  • Receives report on assigned clients and gives relieving nurse/staff a complete report.
  • Makes rounds of assigned clients as prescribed by the institution’s or units policies.
  • Adheres to and motivates others to adhere to the nursing process.
  • Assists physicians and other staff with examinations and treatments.
  • Performs care within his or her scope of training and expertise, following the Nursing Process and implements the nursing care plan.
  • Assists as required with unit admissions and discharges.
  • Comply with agency or institutional guidelines and safeguards equipment and supplies.
  • Records all pertinent information on the client/patient clinical record and keeps designated staff informed of changes in status.
  • Communicates with the physician regarding the patient’s needs and reports any changes in the patient’s condition; obtains/receives physicians orders as required.
  • Commits to one hundred percent (100%) patient and customer satisfaction by always exhibiting a courteous and helpful manner during interactions with others, including patients, families, visitors, physicians, students and co-workers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Current state of Illinois nursing license.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years as a registered nurse; one year hospice experience providing direct patient care.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills, and demonstrate good assessment skills
