Design Engineer I - Jigs and Fixtures

This role will support Prototype Fabrication Teams for engineering design and development of Jigs/Fixtures used for holding vehicle parts/assemblies during processes such as weld, paint, assembly, and testing.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the engineering design activities for Jigs/Fixtures used in Prototype Vehicle Assembly by investigating feasibility, performing design using 3-D modeling software, conducting layout review and 2D drawing creation.
• Develop and mature assigned components from scratch
• Understanding Vehicle Body-in-white (BIW) part construction, datums, and weld information to incorporate into fixture design
• Support development groups (Interior Design, Aerodynamics Team, etc.) with requests for fixturing, test equipment, or prototyping needs 
• Analyze and resolve problems with moderate level of guidance and direction.
• Create part specification requirements and BOM.
• Negotiate with surrounding component business units and suppliers.
• Use best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve product and/or processes.
• Search new ways to increase overall efficiency, utilize up-to-date technology, and reduce design and parts costs.
• Travel to client sites required.

Requirements

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree and 1+ years of industry experience in Automotive Design for Body-In-White (BIW)/Sheetmetal/Machining parts required
• Education with the following specialties preferred: Mechanical, Mechanical Technology, Aerospace, Automotive.
• Experience developing Jigs/Fixtures used in Prototype Vehicle Assembly is highly preferred
• Understanding of DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is required.
• 2+ years of experience using CATIA V5 (CATIA V6 preferred)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS office.
