- Position Summary
Oversees work of mechanics and vendors at Sartori Campus and Arrowhead. Performs maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and systems in the health system. Works according to diagrams, sketches, operations manuals and manufacturer’s specifications. Uses hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments. Adheres to MercyOne Healthcare’s performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values.
Major Areas of Responsibility/Functions
. Assists manager in overseeing daily operations of department.
• Serves as a resource to others in area of responsibility and expertise.
• Troubleshoots and addresses questions from staff and others in completing daily activities. Either directs next steps or resolves.
• Familiar with regulatory requirements and assists with/coordinates the preparation for inspections by various regulatory agencies and assure compliance (CARF, JCAHO…).
• Communicates to manager departmental updates and reports problems on an ongoing basis.
• Offers suggestions to improve services and viable options to resolve problems.
• Contributes to departmental policy and procedural revisions
2. Develops and updates staff schedules.
• Reconciles time sheets on a weekly basis.
• Develops and updates staff schedules and assures posted prior to 2 weeks of schedule.
• Resolves daily staffing shortages.
3. Contributes to staff performance evaluation.
• Provides insight for staff performance evaluation and competency assessment.
• Encourages staff and contributes to staff developmental plan.
4. Participates in staff orientation, training and development.
• Ensures that new employees are oriented to department/job and that initial competency is assessed and documented.
• Provides ongoing training on equipment and procedural changes.
5. Performs preventative maintenance on facility equipment.
• Determines the equipment needed to perform specific job.
• Adheres to procedure for specific task.
• Performs tasks according to procedure.
• Verifies proper functionality of the piece of equipment.
• Follows through on inoperative equipment, to include generating a work order and ensuring that work order is completed.
• Maintains 95% completion rating on assigned PM’s.
6. Performs routine repair work.
• Determines the equipment needed to perform specific repair.
• Performs repair work.
• Documents work performed on work order and presents to clerical support staff for record keeping.
• Identifies other repair needs and generates work orders.
7. Operates and maintains boiler room.
• Monitors equipment.
• Identifies problems and takes next steps.
• Communicates to next shift.
8. Demonstrates competency of building systems.
• Knowledgeable of medical gas systems.
• Knowledgeable of heating and cooling systems:
o Chiller start-up
o Boiler start-up
o Air handle unit start-up
o Monitors and sets up negative pressure rooms.
• Knowledgeable in utility systems.
9. Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures.
• Attends required safety programs.
• Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job.
• Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other emergency situations.
• Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture.
