Job Duties

The Wage/Part-Time House Supervisor/SNC serves in the Shift Nurse Coordinator (SNC) office within the Nursing Department for an assigned shift for nursing employees on duty and individuals we serve at full census.

The Wage/Part-Time House Supervisor/SNC:

• Coordinates centralized nursing resources and care delivery on a shift-by-shift basis
for nursing care according to facility and nursing department’s mission, vision, values,
standards and policies, procedures.
• Ensures quality nursing care for individuals with mental illness through the
administration of medication, provision of treatments, and direct-care services on the
adult and geriatric units in a locked environment.
• Ensures mental health recovery concepts and interventions are incorporated into daily
practice for adult and geriatric populations from the pre-admission process through
discharge in relation to nursing care and responsibilities.
• Collaborates with other disciplines and departments to achieve satisfactory results for
the facility mission.
• Provides leadership in emergency codes and other situations during which facility
administration may not be present.
Assists with problem solving issues which may arise in regard to the admission, care
delivery and documentation, and discharge process for the individuals served; this
may include consultation with nursing management, administrator on call, facility
director and/or other executive team members in terms of patient, staff, visitor, or
public issues that arise during a shift with no other leadership present for immediate
action.

Minimum Qualifications

• Require License or eligibility to practice as Registered Nurse by the Virginia State
Board of Nursing.
• Require graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing.


Must have demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to:

• Utilize comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of psychiatric nursing
to provide care appropriate to the adult and geriatric client populations.
• Assess unit acuity and deploy nursing staff to meet unit needs.
• Make difficult decisions with authority and ownership and through appropriate
consultation.
• Effective use of interpersonal skills to communicate, listen, teach, and motivate.
• Handle multiple priorities through time management, organizational skills, and
delegation.
• Intervene assertively and appropriately to address clinical crises or workplace conflict.
• Build constructive working relationships and customer relations between disciplines,
departments, and the public.
• Achieve successful resolution of complaints from clients, families, visitors, as well as
other employees.
• Utilize autonomy, initiative, and self-motivation to achieve successful outcomes.
• Use computer technology to communicate, develop reports, document patient care,
and maintain records.
• See and hear, including peripherally, to recognize hazardous situation/areas and
intervene to ensure safety of people.
• Ability to perform infection control prevention/control practices and appropriately
apply standards in daily activities.
• Ability to work in a secure and locked environment with individuals who are
experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness and/or additional forensic/legal
involvement.
• Have ability to meet the following physical requirements: repetitious walking and/or
standing; bending, lifting, and reaching overhead to position, restrain, transfer,
transport, and/or escort clients and to perform or assist them in activities of daily
living.
• Must be flexible with schedule and assignments managing work time to maintain
compliance with P-14 work hour requirements, working overtime only in staffing
emergency situations.
• Must successfully complete TO (Therapeutic Options) Training, and CPR
