Job Overview
Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center in Washington, DC is hiring a full-time Research Specialist to begin in Spring, 2026. The Research Specialist will engage in the day-to-day operations of the Health Behavior and Cancer Prevention research lab at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Research Specialist will play a key role in supporting ongoing and new behavioral and clinical research projects focused on health behavior and public health, as well as support the coordination of outreach and education efforts about cancer prevention in the community. The position involves implementing study protocols, managing data collection and analysis, coordinating study participants, and ensuring regulatory compliance, as well as supporting the activities of the Program Manager and Principal Investigator. The successful candidate will contribute to both the scientific and operational aspects of research and evaluation projects aimed at understanding and improving health outcomes across diverse populations. The research lab focuses on healthy children and families, adults at-risk for, diagnosed with, and surviving cancer, and developing and testing behavioral health and other interventions to prevent cancer and improve cancer-related quality of life. Duties include but are not limited to:
Assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral and clinical public health studies and outreach programming
Coordinate participant recruitment, screening, consent, and follow-up in accordance with IRB-approved protocols
Conduct data collection, including surveys, interviews, and other assessments
Manage research databases and maintain accurate, confidential records of data
Clean, code, and analyze quantitative data using software such as SPSS
Contribute to data visualization, report generation, and the preparation of manuscripts and scholarly products
Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary research teams, including faculty, fellows, graduate and undergraduate students, and community partners
Support training and mentorship of student research assistants

The Health Behavior and Cancer Prevention Research Lab is housed within the Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC) program of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center. CPC is the nexus for population sciences-focused research, education, and service at Georgetown Lombardi. Reviewed by the NIH/NCI, CPC is 1 of 3 standing research programs that comprise the cancer center. Its mission is to conduct epidemiologic, behavioral, and public health-focused research on novel and innovative ways to prevent and control the spread of cancer locally and in the US population.
Requirements and Qualifications
A bachelor's degree (required) in a public health discipline (e.g., psychology or behavioral and social science, premedical sciences, or similar), with experience in clinical/applied or public health research
Must have superior organizational abilities, attention to detail, ability to multitask and prioritize
Must have professional, service-oriented demeanor, and discerning sense of judgment
Must have excellent interpersonal skills in coordination and communication with constituents, including administrators, faculty, students, and staff
Strong written communication skills are essential
Must have research and evaluation data management and analysis skills commensurate with level of responsibilities, including using SPSS or similar statistical software
Must have commitment to coordinating logistics, meetings, and workflow processes in an organized and professional manner
Must have a collaborative work style and desire to join a cohesive team and collegial environment
Must have a growth mind-set and the ability to assess and evaluate procedures, events, or meetings
