This is a full-time position located in Augusta.  

The Health and Environmental Testing Laboratory (HETL), works to provide quality testing results for the State of Maine, by analyzing water samples for the Maine Drinking Water Program (DWP) and private residents of Maine.  The Shipping and Receiving Section is looking for a Shipping and Receiving Clerk to work within a team in support of laboratory operations and to provide exemplary customer service. 

In this position, you will serve as the Sample Shipping and Receiving Clerk for the Health and Environmental Testing Lab.  Your primary responsibility is to ensure sample integrity through proper receipt and timely distribution of samples from HETL clients including private sources, state agencies and public water systems.  You will also enter and verify data for environmental specimens into the HETL’s laboratory Information Management System (LIMS); provide customer service through receipt of sample requests over the phone and from walk-in clients; answer questions regarding testing kits; conduct environmental data research for internal and external requests; and prepare and mail sample collection kits.  This program is designed to assist public and private water systems in protecting the quality of drinking water sources and protect the health of Maine citizens and visitors drinking water supplies. 

Core Responsibilities:

As a key member of the HETL team, your core responsibilities will include:
•    Entering sample details and demographic data into the HETL’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) System
•    Working with chemists, microbiologists, water treatment professionals, and the public
•    Communicating and assisting clients with ordering testing kits and collecting fees
•    Participating in assembly and shipping of sample collection test kits
•    Receiving sample collection kits and reviewing paperwork for accuracy and compliance with sample acceptance policies
•    Providing support for scientific staff
•    Facilitating proper distribution of samples within the laboratory
•    Maintaining shipping supply materials

Minimum Qualifications:

Training, education or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a solid knowledge of inventory and property management principles to perform complex work in conducting inventory operations for a warehouse or stockroom and 2) the ability to use independent judgment in handling exceptions to established work assignments, priorities and schedules.

All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of: Inventory and Property Assistant.

Preferred candidates will also have:
•    Good oral and written communication skills
•    Ability to follow written standard operating procedures
•    Ability to adapt to changing priorities
•    Ability to apply best practices and standards 
•    Experience with Microsoft Office products
