Position Overview
This position is accountable for performing inspection, sampling, testing, and reporting for various construction materials originating in the district.
Essential Functions
- Performs adequate inspections including sampling and testing of material produced in the district.
- Prepares all required documents and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintains a working relationship with producers' and suppliers' personnel.
- Uses field and laboratory test equipment properly.
- Serves in capacities as directed by the Materials Engineer.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum OR two years of engineering experience.
Conditions of Employment

- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass QC/QA classes as assigned.
- Extensive travel within the district and occasional statewide travel.
- Outdoor work in a variety of conditions including, but not limited to, production facilities, active construction sites and roads open to traffic.
- Ability to lift 60 pounds.
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to work overtime.
- Successful completion of a background screening.
- This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
