The role:
The Project Midwife will lead a strategic project that will analyse and map the current statewide operational approach to managing systems, processes and policies, as well as transport requirements, for families experiencing stillbirth. This is an element under the National Stillbirth Action and Implementation Plan.
This project will support strategic midwifery initiatives, including the progression of midwifery education, training, research and practice across Tasmania. This midwife will utilise highly developed understanding of professional midwifery practice to manage this project to contribute to the strategic objectives of the Department of Health (DoH). This role will establish and maintain consultative and collaborative links within the DoH, with community and industry representatives, and with other external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives related to the National Stillbirth Action and Implementation Plan. This role will engage with and represent the interests of Tasmania in professional networks locally, nationally and internationally. The role will also provide support for committees (or other groups) associated with the functions of the Office of the Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer and National Stillbirth Action and Implementation Plan.

The area:
- The Office of the Chief Nurse and Midwifery Officer (OCNMO) is a small, high-performing, outcomes focused team.
- The OCNMO provides strategic leadership and advice on a diverse range of issues including, but not limited to, strategic planning, policy, workforce, research, education and training locally, nationally and internationally.
- This role can be undertaken from the Northwest, North or South of the state.
Details of Appointment
Fixed term, full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until July 2026.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or fixed term full time, part time and casual vacancies.
Salary: $111,506 - $118,336 per annum. Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type.
- Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023

Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Midwife

- Current Driver’s Licence
The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
