Job Duties

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region—and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.

RBC is currently seeking dedicated and detail-oriented part-time Food Service Workers to support our campus dining operations. These individuals will play a key role in delivering high-quality meals and maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming dining environment for up to 1,000 guests daily.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a high-volume setting
• Open and close the kitchen and cafeteria, including equipment setup and breakdown
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all work areas, equipment, and utensils
• Ensure proper care and maintenance of kitchen equipment
• Sweep, mop, and clean common areas to uphold safety and hygiene standards
• Collaborate with team members, college staff, and vendors to resolve issues and improve service
• Assist with catering and special events as needed
• Knowledge of safe food handling practices and attention to detail in food presentation
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to work effectively and respectfully with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and guests
• Commitment to the mission and vision of Richard Bland College
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge of food preparation and operation, including the operation of modern food service equipment, proper sanitation practices and federal and state health and nutrition requirements
• Must have experience in restaurant or food service operations and applications supporting high food quality
• Must be able to work in fast-paced environment to meet food preparation and food serving schedules for large numbers of individual patrons/customers and groups
• High School Diploma
• Ability to routinely bend, walk, and stoop
• Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 20 lbs
• Ability to stock inventory and rotate products

Additional Considerations

• Serve-Safe certification or currently obtaining certification
