Responsible for the day-to-day operation of a Neurosciences lab with the Le Bonheur Neuroscience Institute. Performs advanced and non-invasive procedures to monitor and measure brain magnetic activity and activation. Monitors and records electrophysiological data using various techniques, equipment, and procedures. Assists with research studies within the lab. Interacts and cares for seizure and brain tumor patients including but not limited to, Parkinson's patients. TMS technician will be available for MEG and EEG as deemed necessary by the manager. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

A Brief Overview

What you will do
  • Performs advanced and non- invasive procedures.
  • Assists the Principal Investigator in conducting clinic tests as well as research studies within the lab.
  • Assists with promoting quality of patient care and cost effectiveness within the department through proper utilization of equipment, supplies, labor and communication.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Education/Formal Training Requirements
  • Required - Bachelor's Degree Neuroscience
  • Required - Bachelor's Degree Psychology
  • Preferred - Bachelor's Degree Engineering
  • Preferred - Bachelor's Degree Healthcare Science

Work Experience Requirements
  • Required - No prior work experience
  • Preferred - EEG
  • Preferred - Emergency response
  • Preferred - Research laboratory

Licenses and Certifications Requirements
  • Required - BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word and Excel).
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data to assist decision making.
  • Ability to participate as a team member as well as to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and follow up appropriately.
  • Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, such as patient records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of Associates and management, physicians and patients and their families.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects.

  • There are no supervisory responsibilities assigned to this job.

Physical Demands
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
