Arkansas State Parks Historic Preservation Participant

 

Position Dates: August 11, 2025- November 11, 2025

 

Position Location: Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park

 

About us:  

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is the largest provider of hands-on environmental conservation programs for youth and adults. Program participants protect and restore national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, marine sanctuaries, cultural landmarks, community green spaces, and much more across the country.

 

 

 

Position Description: 

 

Join the staff at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park in their efforts to preserve Arkansas's rich and varied history. Job tasks will vary but may include:

 

Key Duties

Cataloging artifacts or archival collections, historical research, interviewing and transcribing oral histories, and developing and presenting educational programs.

 

Marginal Duties

Giving guided tours of historical facilities, and other related tasks. Specific job tasks include restructuring the Morrow House, a 19th-century log structure that served as a Confederate Army headquarters, inventorying and digitizing Prairie Grover Battlefield State Park History, and inventorying a collection of items from the United Daughters of the Confederacy,

 

  • To qualify for an internship, an applicant must meet the following criteria:  Be a full-time student in good standing at an Arkansas college/university at the time of application.
  • Have declared a degree of study.
  • Have completed 60 hours of college credit by the time the internship begins.
  • Be an Arkansas resident paying in-state tuition.
  • Maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
  • Demonstrate coursework or knowledge related to work area. 
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Pass a criminal background check 
  • Have reliable on-site transportation

Priority will be given to interns from universities who provide course credit hours for internships. Selected interns will coordinate directly with their universities to obtain credit for their work.

  • An AmeriCorps Educational Award, if and when available, for interns who meet the qualifications set by the Corporation for National and Community Service

AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements: 

This position is part of an SCA AmeriCorps program and if you are selected, you will be serving as an SCA AmeriCorps member. To be eligible for this position you must meet these basic AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements:

  • Being a citizen, permanent resident, or national of the United States 
  • Being at least 18 years or older
  • Having a high school diploma or equivalent or actively working to complete
  • Be willing to undergo National Service Criminal History Check, including criminal background, sex offender and FBI checks conducted after a position is offered.

Intern Benefits:

  • Living Allowance: $500 per week
  • Commuter Allowance: $50 per week
  • AmeriCorps Education Award Eligible

AmeriCorps Enrollment Notice

 

This position may be eligible for AmeriCorps enrollment. However, the SCA has not yet received confirmation of a grant award for this program. If funding is awarded, you may qualify for an AmeriCorps Education Award. If not, you will serve in a non-AmeriCorps role with the same living allowance and benefits. If selected, you will be updated on AmeriCorps funding status before your start date.
