About the role

Job Summary
The Manager of Project Engineering is responsible for leading the Project Engineering efforts of a single mega project or a portfolio of several projects within the scope and responsibility of the Generation Construction department as well as supporting other teams in the organization as needed. This person is accountable for all aspects of the project engineering life cycle management, including the support of the initial scoping in project development, ensuring design basis is adhered to, support of accurate budgeting and forecasting of projects, combined with effective planning and execution of project engineering to support the successful execution of Major Projects Generation projects.
This position requires proactive leadership to integrate and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. Stakeholders include Project Management, Project Controls, Project Development, Construction Managers, Architect Engineers, and the other Major Projects groups. The Manager will staff, plan, direct, control, and be responsible for the project engineering of assigned projects to ensure the desired success criteria is achieved. Highly developed organizational, leadership, communication and technical skills are required


This position will report to an organization that is primarily focused on the execution of new generation projects



Essential Functions

  • Leads team that works with engineering firms to provide engineering solutions that effectively meet the project’s goals and objectives, while still adhering to the financial goals of the company and maintain projects within budgetary constraints.
  • Ensures that project engineers apply engineering project management during the project life cycle including project initiation / conceptual engineering, engineering planning, detailed design and drawing submittal, constructability reviews, field engineering support and change control, product testing and acceptance, transition of the product or service to the customer and ensure optimum product performance by the customer.
  • Follows OPM principles in the project life cycle including project development, engineering, construction, testing, turnover and technical support.
  • Manages staff to work with project team to help develop project estimates, budgets, preliminary schedules, risk identification, and scope.
  • Ensures organization and oversight on the management and control of project engineering including Architect Engineering firms.
  • Provides engineering guidance and timely information to project teams in order for balanced decision-making in regard to risks and execution.
  • Provides timely, relevant and quantifiable information to their Directors and Vice Presidents to assist them with balanced decision-making in regards to project management and/or financial opportunities.
  • Ensures scope planning, requirements management, and scope definition is complete.
  • Supports the development and application of Engineering performance metrics to monitor progress including, the identification and reporting of engineering performance challenges and risks.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to work collaboratively with project management for life cycle project engineering change control to prevent scope creep or degradation of quality.
  • Provides leadership and oversight regarding project start up and test plans.
  • Supports the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).

  • Required Qualifications For Position
  • 4 year Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management degree, or degree in a closely related technical field from an ABET accredited college or university and 4 years’ experience in either managing projects, project controls, or project engineering in an industrial environment.
  • 4-6 years Minimum 5 years’ experience in one or more of the following: engineering experience in a utility-based environment, project management, or fossil plant operations or maintenance.
  • Must have the ability to lead and function in multi-discipline teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of the processes associated with Fossil Power, Hydro Power, and/or Renewables
