Job Summary
As a Principal Digital Product Owner, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the successful delivery of multiple digital products, capabilities, and services, leveraging broad business and process knowledge at Amtrak. You will be a member of a cross-functional team and serve as the primary voice of the customer to guide development teams in building software products with the highest business and customer impact.
You will work with product management and other stakeholders to develop multi-product strategy and prioritize/manage medium- to high-complexity digital product backlog, incorporating feedback from business stakeholders and the team to guide continuous product improvement. This product owner role is focused on data and analytics platforms, providing foundations to empower technology teams and provide business stakeholders with accurate and trusted data.
Role is based in Washington, DC, Boston, Wilmington, Chicago, New York, or Los Angeles. Requests for Remote work will be reviewed but not guaranteed. Candidates must be able to work Eastern Time Zone business hours.
Essential Functions
- Act as the primary voice of the customer and point of contact across multiple products within a value stream representing significant business impact, managing the product backlog, ensuring that it reflects business priorities and drives value.
- Develop and communicate a clear product vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs. Navigate difficult conversations with influence and respect, gaining buy-in for difficult decisions or changes.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with product management and stakeholders to define high-value features and user experiences, ensuring delivery of scalable solutions with clear acceptance criteria that drive measurable outcomes across multiple teams or domains. You will focus on delivering impactful solutions within a value stream.
- Prioritize features and user stories based on business value, customer feedback, and technical feasibility, ensuring the team works on high-priority items.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, customers, and development teams, to ensure everyone is aligned with the product vision.
- Create and maintain a product roadmap that outlines the strategic direction, key features, and timelines for product development.
- Define and track key metrics and outcomes to measure the success of the product and identify areas for improvement.
- Drive agile maturity and continuous improvement, both within a team and at an Agile Release Train or Team-of-Teams level.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. Plus 7 years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Jira Software, Confluence, FigJam, Jira Align, and similar tools.
- Strong understanding of Product Management, User Experience Research, and Design Thinking methodologies.
- Experience defining Minimum Viable Product (MVP) approaches and pivot or persevere decisions.
- Transportation or customer service industry experience.
- Demonstrated success in defining and building products on product teams.
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or relevant experience. Plus 9 years of relevant work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Broad knowledge of enterprise data and analytics, including experience with data platforms such as Databricks.
