Weston Hospital houses a combined Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), providing care for critically ill patients following surgery, particularly those with cardiovascular, thoracic, or vascular conditions. The SICU/CVICU at Weston supports patients with perioperative management needs, post-operative complications, and those requiring specialized intensive care after surgery.  As a PCNA on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients.

A caregiver in this role works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.  

• Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.  

• Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED  

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross or must obtain during your new hire period 

• Nursing students: required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross (AHA) prior to hire

• Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered  

• Proficient in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at an eighth-grade level

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

• State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) 

• One year of patient-care experience

• Customer service, rehab or prior retail experience

Physical Requirements:

• The position requires a considerate amount of physical work not to exceed 50 pounds.

• Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.

• The individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment or supports, and push beds throughout the hospital.

• The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties such as check chest tube drainage, check urine output, etc.

• The individual must be able to quickly maneuver throughout halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.

• Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills.

• In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.
