Healthcare Interpreters serve patients and caregivers to support the operations of the department in consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation modes. You’ll relay medical information between speakers of two different languages while complying with all office and hospital policies and procedures, particularly relating to patient confidentiality and informed consent.
This caregiver works variable PRN shifts as needed according to volume, with the ability to travel locally 50% of the time.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Help facilitate the successful delivery of services to linguistically diverse consumers.
Explain hospital procedures, office protocols and limitations to clinicians and patients, make appropriate referrals and serve as a cultural and linguistic resource to patients and providers.
Provide written transcriptions as required, such as filling out forms and medication instructions, medication schedules, letters, documents and patient materials.
Support office operations by answering the phone, taking requests, calling patients to confirm and schedule appointments, documenting encounters, entering data, troubleshooting, filing and photocopying.
Assist the department by working an on-call rotation.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma, GED or equivalent
One year of experience as an interpreter required
Fluency in English and one or more foreign languages, both oral and written
Valid state driver’s license and automobile insurance coverage
Work in a consecutive mode and sight translate into and from working language(s)
Strong medical vocabulary
Knowledge of, familiarity with and ability to work with patients of diverse cultural background
Knowledge of computer systems
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
