Bloomingfoods has been a community-owned cooperative (co-op) grocery store since 1976. In 1975, a group of people got together and created a business that would have a local focus and bring them all the great food that they could not find anywhere else. We remain dedicated to good food and good health, excellent customer service, local and regional producers, and giving back to the community we are all a part of. Food issues are central to our focus, and we want to keep folks up-to-date on what is happening in our community and the world — we strive to share more of what we know with others.

Our Mission

Bloomingfoods promotes healthy, high quality, sustainable, and environmentally-sound products at a fair price. Our commitment to sustainable agriculture, artisanal producers of local products, and delicious regional foods are a few of the things that set us apart. Our purpose and mission are:

• To promote and encourage interest in the local growing of food crops and to provide for the consumers of Southern Indiana locally grown, nutritious food.
• To educate the community to the economic, social, and other beneficial values inherent in organizing community services, and in offering locally produced consumer goods and food.
• To help provide low-cost food and consumer services to low-income owner-members of the Co-op and the local community as a whole whenever possible. 

PURPOSE: To support the front end department team in performing daily operations of the department to meet the goals and objectives set by the Assistant Store Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

1.  CUSTOMER SERVICE

1. Provide internal and external customers with excellent service at all times.
2. Treat people fairly, consistently, and with respect.
3. Ensure efficient, informative, and friendly service in all areas according to established customer service vision and standards.
4. Use appropriate language, behavior, appearance, and overall conduct with or in the presence of customers, vendors, and store personnel according to BCS and store policies.

2.  OPERARTIONS

1. Ensure accuracy and security of all cash received through front end, by monitoring for strong money-handling procedures, verifying drawers, prepare daily deposits & change orders, document over/shorts and provide regular performance feedback to cashiers.
2. Promote membership to customers and assist in selling memberships as needed.
3. Assist customers in placing special orders. Call customers and facilitate pick-up as needed.
4. Ensure adequate supplies are available (register tape, pens, sacks, etc.) at registers.
5. Ensure consistent on-the-job training.
6. Ensure that all department staff is aware of notices and policy changes.
7. Pursue continuing education opportunities when possible and appropriate.
8. Perform other tasks assigned by Assistant and Store Manager.
9. Provide a friendly, welcoming and engaging checkout experience for every customer.
10. Use correct codes to ensure accurate sales receipts and inventory records.
11. Employ proper scanning and handling technique to ensure efficiency and product integrity with all transactions.
12. Bag or assist with the bagging of customer orders and offer carry-out assistance as necessary.

3.  LOCATION DUTIES

1. Ensure carts and baskets are available to customers in designated areas.
2. Perform various cleaning and maintenance duties including but not limited to the retail floor, dining areas, restrooms, and facility grounds.
3. Maintain restroom cleanliness throughout the day and ensure adequate supplies of tissue and towels.
4. Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures and immediately report deviations from established norms.
5. Perform opening and closing procedures including set-up and tear-down of displays, cleaning, and security procedures.
