About the Business Insurance Sales Team
We are standing up a new sales team, to provide advisory services to our small and medium business customers looking for business insurance solutions to help their companies stay protected and compliant. As part of the team incubating these advisory efforts, you will be responsible for rapidly testing hypotheses that will help develop and create processes for our growing team, on how we can best educate our customers on their business insurance needs, and help them adopt the proper solutions. Our Business Insurance Sales team will utilize their business insurance expertise to help our customers understand, navigate, and choose the right offerings to help them stay compliant. This team will sit within the broader Gusto Sales organization, where each team member is committed to making a tremendous impact on our small business customers every day.
Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:
- Work directly with small business owners to understand their needs around business insurance, and educate them about the products and policies offerings they need to stay compliant and protect their business and employees
- Transform the complicated language of business insurance into clear and simple concepts for customers to understand
- Drive positive customer experience, and ultimately revenue, by helping customers navigate the buying process
- Deliver comprehensive pitches and answer technical inquiries
- Gather and share insights from your calls: What are some themes we are hearing from our customers? What can we learn? What can we do better?
- Represent the voice of the customer; Help fuel the feedback engine to inform our sales processes, our product roadmap, and help shape Gusto to be the product of our customers’ dreams.
- Use your communication and partnership skills to educate cross functional stakeholders and compel action.
- Collaborate with our business insurance partner to effectively finalize transactions.
Here’s what we're looking for:
- Licensed to sell P&C insurance in your resident state

- Extensive knowledge of various insurance products and policies
- 2-4 years experience selling risk-related insurance products in customer facing roles
- Passionate about helping small business owners get the solutions they need, through empathetic and consultative conversations
- Comfort with ambiguity and willingness to experiment as we continue to build this team
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics around Business Insurance in an easy-to-understand way.
- Analytic and strategic thinker with the ability to translate individual conversations into themes and recommendations
- Energized by learning new skills to do the best work of your life
- Experience with Google Suite and Salesforce preferred
Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $106,000/year - $128,000/year salary for San Francisco & New York, and $87,000/year - $112,400/year salary in Denver & most remote locations. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees who are based in those locations will be expected to work from the office on designated days approximately 2-3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to all Symmetry roles, Gusto's subsidiary, whose physical office is in Scottsdale.
Note: The San Francisco office expectations encompass both the San Francisco and San Jose metro areas.
