Where the chemistry happens…

The Research Technician will support the yield/phenotyping organization for the Memphis Cotton & Soybean Breeding organizations. The Associate will directly support the Commercial Testing Manager and Seed Science Operations (SSO) team to accomplish commercial variety advancement and development as it aligns with the business trait and germplasm priorities. Associate will help lead field management activities, field data capture and field records. Knowledge of field agronomic practices and operation of field equipment such as: planters, sprayers, cultivators, and harvest equipment. Associate will also be involved in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) data collection and transfer of data. Associate will support development and implementation of a yield testing program to capture environmental data, phenotype data and define experimental designs that support robust decisions, strengthen go to market message and inform breeding models. 

As a Field Research Technician - Memphis, TN, You Create Chemistry By...

 

•    Purpose, Vision, Oversite, Direction:  Assist Memphis SSO organization to develop and select varieties that meet the business defined product profiles.  Help create a phenotyping and yield trial program that supports commercial decisions and delivers data to the MS breeder.
•    Personnel Management: Responsible to lead the yield trail ginning activities including managing contingent staff involved in the activity. Supporting the site teams including farm and equipment operations, and contingent worker oversight. 
•    Operations Oversite: Lead process improvements in the areas of responsible, that work to achieve more with less, or more in less time and generate optimum procedures/processes/actions that alter favorably team/business needs.  Develop a culture of safe practices and full implementation of safety guidelines/training. 
•    Collaborate & Improve: Develop collaborative relationships with internal partners including, the line breeding team, SSO team, the native trait team and Agronomic Services Team.  Support the development of product profiles with input from the business and agronomic teams
•    Resource Management: Align and track resources, people and work objectives, that stretch goals to always achieve more, while creating value and future growth.  Forecast future needs.
•    Accountability: Achieve successful outcomes and timelines, while consistently following guidelines, rules, standards, and compliance.  Monitor, track and maintain desired outcomes and objectives.  Prepare for future challenges.

If you...

Education 
•    Have BS with minimum of 2 years relevant experience in agronomy, crop physiology, biology, breeding or agricultural related field.
•    Have relevant experience in crop yield trialing, crop modelling, crop management and experimental designs
Experience
•    Have 2+ years in Seed Industry/Academic Research and variety characterization positions with related experiences variety development, cotton and soybean yield trialing, managing sites and people.
•    Have small plot research in relevant crop area and knowledge of production practices of cotton and soybean.
Knowledge/Skills
•    Have ability to develop strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PRISM, SAP, PHENOME, GIS systems, Bartender, KanSched, FieldPrime, iQarus, and Spotfire
•    Have experience working with database systems is a plus.
•    Have a high degree of self-motivation and organizational skills, with a process driven mindset.
•    Have Drone pilots license or willingness to get a drone license immediately and Pesticide Applicator License preferred
•    Willing to challenge the status quo to spark improved strategies, methods, and practices that allows others to be efficient and productive in a fast-paced high-performing environment
•    Have ability to work well independently and in large teams. Openness to giving and receiving feedback, perspectives, and ideas
