The Pharmacy Technician position provides individuals with an opportunity to work in a community health center pharmacy department and join a team that focuses on improving lives with compassionate healthcare and support services, regardless of ability to pay. The Pharmacy Technician assists the Pharmacy Department and Health Center staff to provide integrated, accessible health care services related to medication needs. The Technician’s focuses will be to support functions of the Pharmacy Department especially related to medication and pharmacist access for HealthNet patients, serves as Health Center retail pharmacy technician, and auditing to ensure integrity of medication administered at HealthNet’s Health Centers and programs.
Administrative
- Always maintains professional working relations with patients, pharmacy personnel, physicians, nurses, and other medical personnel.
- Under the supervision by the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Reviews and complies with the HealthNet Pharmacy’s Code of Conduct.
- Complies with all state and federal laws and regulations.
- Responsible and accountable for registering all related sales on the cash register, collects and handles cash as required.
- Handles telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to and from physicians’ offices.
- Processes (corrects and resubmits) claims for third party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and performs other clerical duties, as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
- Assists and supports Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals.
- Ensures medication availability by delivering medications when needed.
- Assists with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat and orderly in condition and appearance. Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy.
- Utilizes prior knowledge of pharmacy operations/programs and government and/or financial constraints to identify strategies for improving efficiencies.
- Provides daily administrative assistance to pharmacists, including managing patient appointments.
Clinical Support
- Performs duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and HealthNet Leadership including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring medications, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions. Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
- Performs medication reconciliations and medication histories.
- Accomplishes this through a variety of resources, such as patients, family members, pharmacies, and hospitals.
- Provides concise, applicable, comprehensive, and timely responses about medication queries.
- Able to anticipate when something is wrong or likely to go wrong; recognizing there is a problem.
- Reports, immediately, prescription errors to pharmacist on duty.
- Facilitates adherence by ensuring that patients receive prescribed medications and therapies in a timely manner.
- Ensures medications can be physically obtained by patients through a variety of modalities (delivery, home delivery, mail delivery, pickup, etc.).
- Actively participates in and compliantly uses the 340B drug pricing program.
- Serves as a resource and support for Pharmacy Department and other clinical staff at Health Centers and programs.
- Can assist clinical staff with prior authorization processes and approvals.
- Use math to solve a problem, such as calculating day’s supply or dispense quantity of a prescription.
- Assists with Medication Assistance Programs.
- Prepares basic plan for medication access requests for pharmacist to review.
- Determines if prescriptions are covered under patient plans, recommending covered alternatives to pharmacist if not covered.
- Performs proactive outreach telephone calls to schedule appointments as directed by pharmacist to improve clinical quality and outcomes
Committee
- Responsible for participating in various multidisciplinary committees, task forces, and focus groups. Participates in these committees as assigned by the Director and Manager.
Program Monitoring
- Completes regular auditing of medication related services provided by HealthNet as directed.
