What You’ll Do

Samsung SoC R&D Lab in San Diego is seeking talented, highly motivated individuals to join our team conducting research on cutting-edge AR/VR/XR technologies using traditional and/or deep learning methods.

In this team, you will work on algorithm research and development that can significantly enhance the ability of Samsung mobile products and platforms.  

Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Diego, CA office 3 days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time.

• To research and develop novel cutting-edge technologies for AR/VR/XR (e.g. 3D map building, SLAM, human pose estimation, hand pose estimation and gesture recognition, hand tracking, gaze tracking, etc.).
• To produce key intellectual property and research papers in the area of AR/VR/XR and develop prototypes.
• Prepare presentations, technical reports and patent applications that reflect the results.

What You Bring

• Bachelors with 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters with 3+ years or PhD with 0 years in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3+ years’ experience in vision SLAM/vision inertial odometry/visual odometry, computer vision, or machine learning and neural networks.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Extensive knowledge of current major algorithm framework in VO/VIO/vSLAM: ORB-SLAM, VINS-MONO, SVO, ROVIO, MSCKF etc.
• Proficient in Linux, C/C++, MATLAB, Python, OpenCV, ROS, Ceres, g2o, Eigen, popular deep learning frameworks.
• Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in computer vision, IMU pre-integration, bundle adjustment, key frame marginalization, parameter tuning etc.
• Have the creativity and enthusiasm of invention and strive to create visual perception technology to solve practical problems. Result oriented and self-motivated.
• Ph.D. or above degree in Robotics, EE, ME, CS, or related areas with publications in highly ranked journals and conferences, e.g. CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, IROS, ICRA, NIPS, ICML, ISMAR, TPAMI, etc.
• Experience in contributing to either vSLAM/VIO/VO algorithms, deep learning architectures, hand/human pose estimation algorithms, or eye tracking algorithms.
• Engineering experiences on deploying computer vision models to embedded system.
• Extensive knowledge of SLAM system development and optimization, including Kalman/particle filtering, sensor fusion, nonlinear state estimation.
• Experience with 3D point cloud, map building or depth image processing pipeline.
• Experience with mesh constructions.
• Hands-on experience of deep learning perception algorithm is preferred.

Within the base pay range, individual rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education and training. This is part of our comprehensive compensation package with annual bonus eligibility and generous benefits to help you live life well

Base Pay Range$82,096—$188,800 USD
