Job Description

The BHS Program Director - Ben Gordon Center Clinical Operations reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Under the direction of the Director and with the cooperation of the Medical Directors, the Program Director implements and supervises clinical and managerial aspects of Behavioral Health Services patient access programs (e.g. BHS Social Work Consult Services, BHS Intake). This position is required to perform all tasks in a fashion where the Director assures, embraces, and communicates the Pledge, Values, and policies of NM.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies opportunities for new business growth and development, expansion of current services, etc.
  • Leads patient access processes and efforts in response to those opportunities in achievement of BHS growth goals.
  • Practices fiscal accountability. Encourages staff and team accountability by involving them in budget preparation, identifying ideas for increasing efficiency, cost savings, developing and growing the business and existing services.
  • Measures and monitors budget and business development plans; provides ongoing updates to staff.
  • Makes effective hiring decisions; completes the 90-day NEWMAN orientation process for new employees.
  • Identifies staff's individual skills and interests; provides timely, positive, constructive feedback; addresses performance gaps as they occur with clear action plans and timelines for improvement.
  • Supports ongoing learning and skill development for self and staff; provides coaching and mentoring; assigns stretch goals, cross-training and other opportunities for career development within NM.
  • Involves staff in planning and decision-making as appropriate. Holds staff accountable for follow-through and results.
  • Facilitates change readiness and agility among staff and teams.
  • Creates a culture of respectful communication by listening, demonstrating approachability, practicing meeting, voicemail and e-mail courtesy.
  • Responsible for the daily program operations for BHS Social Work Consultative Services and BHS Intake in a manner that produces a positive patient experience and outcome.
  • Provides direct clinical supervision to case therapists, case managers, student interns, and other staff as appropriate which includes chart auditing, individual meetings, and group learning and feedback.
  • When necessary, carries a patient caseload and conducts thorough assessments, prioritizes problems for treatment interventions and plans, uses strategies to establish rapport and work toward problem resolution, facilitates group counseling, and provides education and counseling services to patients and families.
  • Provides clinical and operational leadership to other BHS work teams, demonstrating ability to cross train and manage and improve care in other clinical areas of BHS as needed.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of smooth service access for prospective patients, including outreach to significant referral sources.
  • Assures a smooth transition of patient care between other patient care providers and BHS.
  • Develops policies governing patient care within the ED, inpatient or outpatient behavioral health along with the Administrator and Clinical Director.
  • Supervises treatment team meetings and multi-disciplinary staff meetings so that clinical/non-medical and medical information is integrated to bring about positive patient care.
  • Oversees telephone screenings for information/inquiry calls that may be conducted with wireless phones, and appointments may be scheduled in Microsoft Word or scheduling software. Must be able to complete these tasks to facilitate patient access to treatment as assist treatment team with these skills.
  • Documents in patient medical record or other automated medical records software in an accurate and timely fashion.
