Production Engineer

Provide technical support for equipment, processes and support groups in an effort to improve equipment run time, increase productivity, reduce scrap while maintaining and/or improving machine capabilities. Daily interaction with production staff to extract and analyze operational data and perform statistical analysis to identity root cause. Position will routinely lead process improvement projects. Initiate cost reduction initiatives, makes recommendations for action and routinely checks on results obtained. Will be responsible for system integrations within the manufacturing processes to ensure effective capture and control of process data. Manage automation projects according to the project process guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide manufacturing support to the Engineering team in the design and development of new processes and products with a focus on manufacturability and process integration.
• Use tools and knowledge to work closely with technical process experts to improve current process capabilities.
• Implements automation designs by specifying equipment, providing technical support, troubleshooting and resolving problems.
• Lead implementation of systems integration within the process to ensure data is captured and presented to internal and external customers.
• Lead process improvement projects that focus on removing waste.
• Work with customer specifications/drawings to produce technical extruded products.
• Develop processes and procedures to train peers in the ongoing sustainment of continuous improvement.
• Recommends methods and technologies for process improvements based on manufacturing needs and capabilities.
• Work closely with project managers to identify potential process options, determine process capability and validate the outside processes meet design requirements.
• Work with Sales, Production and Engineering to evaluate, analyze and determine process improvements that impact the bottom line and which have the best return on investment.
• Support production as issues arise with current systems and equipment to ensure minimal downtime and equipment remains operations.
• Ensure all automated systems meet external/internal safety requirements allowing for safe operation.
• Perform IQ/OQ/PQ and process capability studies.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 3+ years extrusion/plastics manufacturing experience with process/automation competency.
• A solid knowledge of plastics is preferred.
• Background must include experience in more than one of the following areas: medical device manufacturing, extrusion, injection molding, process improvement, industrial manufacturing.
• Strong computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite; including Word and Excel.
• Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Solidworks; preferred
• Effective communication, listening and diagnostic skills are required.
• Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team is essential.
• Must be hands on and willing to work in a production environment including off shifts when projects require.
• The ability to travel to division/customer locations.
• Six Sigma or Lean experience highly recommended.
