POSITION:                           Maintenance A – Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic

LOCATION:                          Red Clay Maintenance 

REPORTS TO:                     Designated Administrator 


PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: To provide skilled work at a lead mechanic level. Works independently and performs complete diagnosis on vehicles and equipment, repair, preventative maintenance and road testing with the proper and accurate record keeping. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITY:
 

1. Responsible for maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on vehicles, tractors, light construction equipment, and assigned School District assets.
2. Performs mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on lawn equipment, snow blowers, snow removal equipment, chainsaws, generators, custodial cleaning equipment.
3. Performs complete tune-ups and repairs on gasoline, propane, and diesel-powered equipment.
4. Conducts electrical troubleshooting, locates and repairs wiring faults, and replaces defective electrical components.
5. Maintains preventative maintenance schedules and written maintenance records for vehicles and equipment.
6. Responds to road service calls and retrieves or repairs disabled vehicles and equipment as required.
7. Operates equipment as required, including school buses in emergency situations where applicable.
8. Participates in maintenance operations outside their primary trade when needed.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and maintain accurate records and reports.
3. Physical ability to lift, bend, reach overhead, stand for extended periods, and perform strenuous maintenance activities.
4. May be required to work evenings, extended hours, holidays, or emergency call-outs as operational needs require.
5. Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety practices, and applicable vehicle/equipment repair techniques.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

Twelve-month year

Salary and benefits in accordance with the negotiated Agreement.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with The District's evaluation procedures.

*Safety-sensitive position. Employees holding a school bus driver's license may be subject to random alcohol and controlled substance testing.
