Research in the Martins Laboratory focuses on the molecular regulation of immune responses, particularly the mechanisms regulating T lymphocyte function. We are interested in identifying pathways that can be harnessed to manipulate T lymphocyte function and potentially interfere with ongoing immune responses associated with chronic inflammatory conditions. The Research Lab Assistant I performs lab cleaning and maintenance duties including washing and sterilizing glassware, operates autoclaves and other specialized equipment, utilizing special detergents or other cleaning agents. Assists in ordering and maintenance of cleaning supplies inventory. Performs other lab cleaning and maintenance as required. May participate in research studies and perform basic lab techniques under guidance of the PI.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs lab cleaning and maintenance duties, including washing and sterilization of glassware, operation of autoclaves and other specialized equipment.
- Assists in ordering and maintenance of cleaning supplies inventory.
- Assists in maintaining laboratory and laboratory equipment record keeping.
- May assist with the feeding and maintenance of lab vivarium activities.
- May perform basic administrative duties in laboratory or in accordance with research project.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma/GED, is required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience and Skills:
- Ability to understand and perform a variety of routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to support the activity of one or more research labs.
- Ability to use specialized equipment and materials.
- Ability to comply with safety standards and procedures.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
- Function efficiently and cooperatively with a team of faculty, research associates, technicians, and students.
- Scheduling flexibility and timeliness, including evening, weekend, and holiday rotation commitments.
