Position Objective:
Lifeguards provide instruction, supervision, and ensure the safety and well-being of all campers and staff involved in all water-based activities at MHA in a professional and productive manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.
General Qualifications:
The Lifeguard is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.
Key Job Accountabilities:
- Responsible to act as a first responder in events of injury as well as document incidents and injuries.
- Provide a safe environment (physically, mentally, and emotionally) for guests to enjoy aquatic activities.
- Provide supervision of aquatic activities at MHA.
- Accountable to uphold and enforce pool rules to ensure safety of all using the pool.
- Responsible to provide swim lessons
- Assist Supervisor and other lifeguards with daily, weekly, and monthly pool maintenance and chemical testing.
- Maintain, document and report any damage to operating equipment and facilities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications
Education/Certifications/Licenses:
- Highschool grad and some college experience - Must have a current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification with CPR/AED and FA
Work Experience:
- Prior Lifeguard experience is preferred - Experience teaching youth and young adults new skills and managing risks in an aquatic setting
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Love for youth of all ages is essential; demonstrates qualities of a strong Christian role model.
- Ability to work on a team and use good judgment and decision making.
- Punctual and responsible.
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all applicable lifesaving techniques.
- Exhibits great interpersonal skills with people of all ages.
- Observant and attentive.
- Ability to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
- Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
