We are seeking a Senior Back-End Engineer to join our Workforce Benefits Division. This role is available at our office at Omaha, NE, with flexible on-site work options.

Position Overview

As a Senior Java Back-End Engineer, you will contribute to the development and optimization of our core insurance administration system, working with Enrollments. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to build scalable, secure, and high-performing back-end services. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in Java development, a collaborative mindset, and a passion for delivering impactful solutions in the insurance domain.

Key Responsibilities

• Back-End Development: Design, develop, and maintain Java-based back-end services that support a configuration-driven insurance platform.

• System Integration: Collaborate with front-end developers, UX/UI designers, and business stakeholders to ensure seamless system interoperability.

• Microservices & API Development: Build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices to support secure and efficient integrations.

• Performance Optimization: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure system scalability and responsiveness.

• Problem Solving: Participate in troubleshooting and continuous improvement of back-end development practices.

• Collaboration & Mentorship: Work alongside lead engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing and best practices across the team.

Insurance-Specific Responsibilities

• Group Insurance Enrollments: Develop and enhance services supporting group insurance enrollment workflows and data models.

• Policy Lifecycle Support: Implement features for policy issuance, endorsements, renewals, terminations, and reinstatements.

• Configuration-Driven Logic: Apply configurable business rules for benefit eligibility, premium calculations, and validations.

• Domain Logic: Contribute to services related to member enrollment, policy administration, and product configuration.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Experience:

  • 4+ years in Java-focused back-end development, with strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and microservices.

  • 2+ years of experience writing code and modifying Enterprise Insurance Systems (EIS) is a plus.

• Version Control: Proficient in Git.

• Tools Knowledge: Experience with Kraken, OpenL, and Flowable is preferred.

• Industry Background: Prior experience in the insurance industry is required, with a strong understanding of group insurance products and workflows.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.
